Justin Rose is only able to advance the ball about 60 yards with his second shot from the deep rough at the seventh. Another dropped shot for Martin Kaymer on the ninth, his fourth in the last three holes, to move back to two over.

Phil Mickelson's charge comes to an abrupt halt after a chip around the eighth green is under hit and comes back almost to his feet. He faces a fight to stay at level par.

The shortest par four on the course bur don't expect an easy time. Three newly situated bunkers will swallow any wayward drives, with players looking to stay left on a narrow fairway to open up the green. Birdie opportunities should be common.

Clutch putt made by Adam Scott to stay at three under on the sixth, while Phil Mickelson misses a birdie chance on the seventh to get into the red. Things are slipping away for Martin Kaymer after a storming start, as a third dropped shot in two holes on the eighth moves him back to one over.

The birthday boy George Coetzee must have had a great present this morning. He is beaming.

Coetzee, 28, has just dropped a putt from over 50 feet on the 13th green. It was travelling, but deadly accurate and he is now four under and closing in on the lead.

The South African started playing golf as a 10-year-old and won the first tournament he ever played in, shooting 49 on a nine hole course.

With a tee shot flanked by out of bounds on one side and the clubhouse on the other, bravery and accuracy are tested. A sharp dog leg to the right requires a well-positioned drive, before an approach of around 190 yards to a green protected by a swale on the safer left side away from the out of bounds on the right.

Keep your fascinating tales about unexpected accidents and mementos at sporting events coming. Here are a couple more corkers:

Dan in Newcastle: Michael Vaughan hit me on the head with his umbrella whilst walking past me at Lord's in the heavy rain in 2005.

Anon: Lytham '88. Seve smashes a drive deep into a huge bush. The ball whistled over my head and I saw exactly where it had gone, and so dived in after it. I signalled that I had found it and in clambers Seve with a 7 iron. Every other player in the field would have taken a drop, but not Seve, oh no. He then grips the club halfway down the shaft and hacks it out left handed about 3 yards. Enough to then hit the green and save par. All I got in return for finding the lost ball was a smile and a nod. A memory I'll treasure forever.

Adam Scott gives himself an outside chance of an eagle with a wedge to within 20 feet on the fifth. He needs something to happen to spark his round into life having dropped back to two under for the tournament.

A massive blow for Martin Kaymer as he double bogeys the par-four seventh after finding the gorse with his tee shot. Kaymer has moved back to one under.

Those tee shots on the fifth were just like you probably produce down your local driving range.

Adam Scott lampooned his ball 362 yards, cutting off a massive dog-leg. Justin Rose crashed it a pathetic 358 yards and Jason Dufner flew 312. These guys need to hit the weights room.

Martin Kaymer has already played four on the par-four seventh and isn't yet on the green. The German was flying this morning with three birdies from the first six holes but he will at least drop back to one under for the championship here.

His chip from the semi rough is five feet from the hole, leaving him a fight for a bogey.
