    Willett (-2 after 10)

This is a game of inches and Danny Willett has been almost, almost perfect today. Putts are rolling smoothly but one or two are just stopping that fraction short of the cup. Those are the margins I guess, can he just find that extra gear - it's a magic gear - the type which wins majors.

A par on 10 sends him to the hardest hole on the course at two under.

"An excellent final putt from Matthew Fitzpatrick. He is someone with a big, big future in this game."

Fitzpatrick finishes birdie-birdie-birdie-par-birdie for a superb 67 and level par finish. Off comes the cap and you can see some swagger in his body language.

"That is a really, really bad miss from Lee Westwood."

    Westwood (-1 after 9), Spieth (-5 after 7)

Jordan Spieth will surely birdie eight, prime location for two blows on a par five. So what can the field do to keep pace? Lee Westwood shows us a hook which would make Anthony Joshua proud.

His ball trundles into trees and trouble. There can be no slips here and that was one, work to do on 10. He chips up and leaves around 20ft for par.

    Johnson (-1 after 9), Casey (+1 after 14)

Paul Casey refuses to go away. He's like an annoying dog following you around on holiday.

A nice wedge leaves him 10ft for birdie on 15. Speaking of birdies, Dustin Johnson is shouting 'bingo' as his putt from 12ft drops on the ninth. He's into red numbers and four back.

  7. 'Are you kidding me'published at 21:33 British Summer Time 10 April 2016

    McIlroy (+3 after 10)

    "Are you kidding me?"

Those words followed a splash. Who is the culprit? Rory, Rory, Rory.

He goes for gold on the hardest hole on the course - 11. The horrid stretch of real estate is grinning at him. "Think you're going to take me on do you son? Think again."

McIlroy is going to really damage the card here. The sulky look and flailing arm say it all...

    Kaufman (level after 7)

You may hear one or two big roars out there today and that's because Smylie Kaufman has his own army.

Well, a social media army at least. The Alabama resident has said his pals are in tow this week and taking advantage of cheap Augusta beer prices.

Perhaps unsurprising then that the Smylie's Army Twitter bio reads: "The army has very loud roars and will outdrink any other fan club".

  9. Spieth extends lead...published at 21:31 British Summer Time 10 April 2016

Spieth (-5 after 7), Kaufman (level after 7)

Two birdies in a row are the stuff of dreams when you lead the Masters. Jordan Spieth's approach to the seventh green was joyous, plopping a wedge onto a ridge and using the slope. The putt is converted and the roars go up.

Are we looking at the champion? I think so. He could lead for eight straight Augusta rounds by the end of today. Frightening.

Smylie Kaufman three putts and it's beginning to go wrong for the Alabama native. He's got some fans you know, more on that next...

    Westwood (-1 after nine)

Lee Westwood has the putter flaming. You could cook steak on that thing. A beautiful putt from mid-range on nine to reach one under.

    Spieth (-4 after 6), Kaufman (-1 after 6), Willett (-2 after 9)

Jordan Spieth in sky blue, Smylie Kaufman in purple, these pair walk up the seventh and have the look of businessmen seeking to close a deal.

Kaufman is unlucky, the fringe prevented his fine strike from feeding down to the hole, monster putt left. Spieth's luck is in by comparison, he uses the slope with a stunning approach and has three feet left to extend his lead. This kid is unstoppable.

Over to Danny Willett, great save, great save Danny boy. Stays at two under at the turn. Spieth should get to five under shortly though.

    Willett (-2 after 8)

Danny Willett is in the hunt but screams of "FORE" are about as welcome as vinegar in a cut.

The ninth hole is playing tough and you cannot make it tougher than it needs to be. He chips his third onto the green but leaves a real nerve-jangler of a seven footer to save par.

  15. Birdies and bogeypublished at 21:21 British Summer Time 10 April 2016

Johnson (level after 8), Day (level after 8), McIlroy (+3 after 10)

"Dustin Hoffman", says Peter Alliss. Dustin Johnson stands over an eagle putt on eight. It won't drop, you've got to commit to these putts and he doesn't.

Rory McIlroy on 10 - a sticky situation - and it will be bogey. He slips away, Jason Day slips a little closer to the business end, dropping a swinging birdie putt on eight to get back to level boards.

    Spieth (-4 after 3)

So was this the moment Jordan Spieth delivered a critical blow. Just as a few were within striking distance he sinks a gutsy left-to-righter. A wonderful read. It's far from vintage Spieth but is there a better grinder in sport. When it's ugly, he scraps like no other.

    Spieth -3

That's a delight on the par three sixth, just past the pin but with a 10-footer for birdie. Willett with an eagle chance to tie the lead - cracking putt, should knock in the birdie. Five Englishmen in the top ten, could one of them come charging through like a mighty shire horse - a golf-playing shire horse, a shire horse in pastel colours and a heavily branded cap?
