    Fleetwood (+6 after 6)

Tommy Fleetwood is the home favourite at Royal Birkdale.

It didn't go his way yesterday, shooting six over, but it's been a much more consistent start to day two for the 26-year-old.

He's through six without dropping a shot and a couple of birdies might keep him alive for the weekend.

Richard, Bakewell: Played in Spain with a German chap and his girlfriend. They were getting a last round in before dashing off to the airport and on one of the later holes his trolley ran down a bank and disappeared into the lake - clubs, wallet, passport etc. His girlfriend thought it was hilarious!

James Thompson: After one too many slices I decided to take my frustration out on my golf bag, with my 4 iron. As I'm standing on the next tee I checked my phone, to my bemusement it seemed to have been snapped in half. It suddenly dawned on me that maybe I should have thought twice before taking my frustrations out on my bag.

    Poulter (-4 after 14)

Another hole, another par for Ian Poulter.

The Englishman has made just one birdie today, but is playing himself into contention.

He sends a tee shot sailing through the drizzle at 15 and it skips on up to the slightly longer grass at the edge of the fairway.

  5. Nine for Thomaspublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 21 July 2017

    Thomas (+5 after 6)

Justin Thomas started the day at three under par, two shots off the lead.

He found himself in the rough and in all sorts of trouble on the par-fourth sixth, eventually taking nine shots to make it down...

That, coupled with a double bogey to start and a bogey at the second, leaves the American at five over for the tournament.

He's eight over through six today!

  7. Watch: Gary Woodland’s eagle at the fifthpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 21 July 2017

Not many eagles on the course today, but this one was lovely by Gary Woodland on the fifth hole. Take a look.

  8. Bland ties the leadpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 21 July 2017

    Bland (-5 after 4)

As others out there are surviving, Richard Bland pummels an iron into the fourth, a par three. What a corker of a shot, leaving 12ft or less for birdie. Can he drain it? Of course he can.

We have a three-way lead - the world number 3, the world number 11 and Blandy, the world number 145.

    Thomas (E after 5)

Justin Thomas with his SIXTH shot finally makes it out of the soggy rough and on to the green.

He followed it with a nervous shuffle, I'm not quite sure the American was convinced that one had shaken off the grip of the long grass.

  10. Henrik bogey!published at 16:40 British Summer Time 21 July 2017

    Stenson (+1 after 7) Spieth (-5 after 7)

Henrik Stenson is on the seventh hole and he's in trouble of his own making. Wet sand in the banker sees him fizz one through the green. He chips back on and leaves a knee knocker for his four - a bogey. I'll come back to you on whether he makes it. You can read all about his possessions being stolen yesterday by clicking here.

Jordan Spieth grabs a huge brolly after tapping in his par. He's holding on where others are wilting. Back to Stenson... 10ft... drops in. Bogey.

  11. Kuchar relieved with one over roundpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 21 July 2017

    Kuchar -4

On most days, a one-over-par 71 is not the sort of result the overnight leader would have been looking for.

But on a links course, with the wind blowing, a 71 represents a good day.

Matt Kuchar set the clubhouse target at four under a little earlier and he told BBC Sport: "It was really challenging out there with 20-30mph winds.

"Every hole was some kind of cross wind, I didn't seem to have one that was down wind, or into.

"On the 12th hole, 162 yards, I hit a 5-iron, aiming at the people 30 yards left of the green and watching it come round slowy and land in the middle of the green. It’s challenging to force yourself to aim so far wide.

"There were a number of putts that were right-to-left breakers but the wind was strong enough to make them break left to right. There is so much adapting to be done."

    Thomas (E after 5)

Justin Thomas has just shown off his amazing disappearing club act.

Set in some deep rough to the right of the fairway at the sixth, the American hammers down his swing only to watch the long, coarse Birkdale grass rip his club from his grasp.

His caddie is on hand to pick it up quickly.

  13. Big hookpublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 21 July 2017

    Koepka (-5 after 5)

As the rain batters down, Brooks Koepka produces a vicious hook on the sixth hole. That is massive problems there as this hole is 499 yards and a par four. What he cards from there is anyone's guess.

    Poulter (-4 after 13)

The wind and rain might have arrived, but it's not about to sweep away Ian Poulter's touch around the greens.

He tickles one up towards the 14th and admires as the crowd roars it on. It stays up, but he pops that into the cup to tick off another par.

  16. Mark's final Open walk...published at 16:29 British Summer Time 21 July 2017

    O'Meara (+11)

    O'MearaImage source, Getty Images

Mark O'Meara makes bogey on 18 to end the day at level and the week at 11 over. Who cares though? I make that 31 Open Championships, two top-five finishes and a separate win of course, in 1998.

As he leaves the green, waving his putter and aknowledging the crowd, he stops to speak to an official who asks if he enjoyed it.

"The best, it's the greatest championship and the greatest walk".

    That's O'Meara's final Open Championship.

    Pieters (-2 after 6)

Pieters gives himself a birdie chance at seven with a fantastic chip to within a couple of feet of the pin from the right of the green with his second shot.

The Belgian managed to find a healthy spot in an area scattered with bunkers, and clipped over the sand in front of him with fantastic control, watching his ball spin off towards the flag.

    Now can he sink it?

    Pieters (-2 after 6)

Thomas Pieters is keeping himself within touching distance of the leaders.

He started brilliantly with back-to-back birdies before a bogey on the fourth, but has found some consistency in the last couple of holes to remain three shots off the top.

The 25-year-old is one under for the day.

'What a way to finish' - Chris Wood's eagle on the 18th

Chris Wood, on the 18th, eagles from the fairway!

The tall Englishman hammers one greenwards, it catches the fringes of the green and skips on towards the hole before dropping down in front of the grandstand.

And that could see him make the cut for the weekend...

  20. O'Meara on form on Fridaypublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 21 July 2017

    O'Meara (+10 after 17)

    Andrew Murray
Former European Tour player on BBC Radio 5 live

For someone of his age to get around this in under par today is an incredible achievement.

It's fantastic, I don't know how he does that. I really don't. The conditions are brutal.

Mark O'Meara shot 11 over par on Thursday, he's heading to the final hole at one under today.
