Rory McIlroy almost missed the cut, but now he's up to tied for eighth on +1. That is how harsh Bethpage has been for some golfers in these windy conditions.

    H Varner III +5

Harold Varner III would have taken home about £930,000 if he had finished the day in second, where he started.

Now, he's on +5, tied for 29th and down to £58,000. Still his best finish at a major though.

    B Koepka -9 (15)

Excitement over. Normal service resumed as Brooks Koepka finds the fairway on 16 with another of those monster drives.

I can still hear the ping, reverberating off the tee.

    M Wallace -2 (17)

England's Matt Wallace has also bogeyed 17. Not an easy hole. He's still the leading European and sits tied for third on -2.

  6. Hole 16published at 23:10 British Summer Time 19 May 2019

    Par four, 490 yards

Played from high up on a teeing ground that overlooks the entire hole, but the green is guarded by deep bunkers that partially obscure the view on approach shots and has bowl-like features on the right and left.

  7. Back-to-back bogeys for Johnsonpublished at 23:10 British Summer Time 19 May 2019

    D Johnson -6 (17)

No! Dustin Johnson's putt stays left of the hole on 17 and that's another bogey.

Brooks Koepka left the door ajar, but it feels like Johnson has just slammed it shut on himself.

  8. Koepka saves parpublished at 23:08 British Summer Time 19 May 2019

    B Koepka -9 (14)

How he needed that. Brooks Koepka ends his long wait for a par on 15.

A slightly misjudged first putt leaves him with a tricky one from four-feet but he's rolled it in.

    Over to you Dustin......

    D Johnson -7 (16)

Dustin Johnson chips onto the green and leaves himself with a huge putt for par. The crowd is still with him though.

    B Koepka -9 (14)

Brooks Koepka was asked about his heart rate last night, and suggested it very rarely goes above resting.

I wonder what it is now?

    B Koepka -9 (14)

Brooks Koepka really needs to steady the ship.

He lobs a short iron in to 15 to give himself a look at a birdie but this is going to be a testy one, down the slope.

    D Johnson -7 (16)

Dustin Johnson's body language has shifted a bit after that bogey. He's not looking happy.

Bet he wouldn't mind a hole in one on the 17th like Lucas Bjerregaard did earlier.

Instead, he lands in the rough and faces a really difficult up and down for par.

  13. Bogey for Johnsonpublished at 23:00 British Summer Time 19 May 2019

    D Johnson -7 (16)

    And the pendulum swings back.

Dustin Johnson takes a good look at the putt before stepping up. It's 7ft, but stays a hair right. It feels like he needs birdies on the last two holes now. A big ask.

    B Koepka -9 (14)

Brooks Koepka looks relieved after larruping his tee shot down the 15th. He's on the fairway, crucially.

There's not quite the same bounce in that stride mind.

  15. 71 for Spiethpublished at 22:58 British Summer Time 19 May 2019

    J Spieth -2 (F)

Jordan Spieth gets par on the 18th to finish tied for fourth.

He made 394 feet of putts this week, the best player in that area, in terms of strokes gained.

    D Johnson -8 (15)

No choking from Dustin Johnson. He gets out of the rough nicely and could still make par on the 16th.

  17. Hole 15published at 22:56 British Summer Time 19 May 2019

A slight dogleg with a green perched some 50 feet above the fairway. The putting surface is two-tiered and slopes severely from back left to front right.

Loving those front edge bunkers aren't you.

    D Johnson -8 (15)

Wonder if Dustin Johnson has any idea what's just gone on on the 14th?

He's having a wobble of his own on the par-four 16th. His second shot goes long and lands in the rough behind the green.

  19. Koepka lead down to onepublished at 22:54 British Summer Time 19 May 2019

    B Koepka -9 (14)

Four straight bogeys. Brooks Koepka is trying to keep his cool but a penny for his thoughts at the moment. The lead is one shot. It was seven on the 10th.

    It's a three-hole play-off. The first, 17th and 18th.
