  1. US win first pointpublished at 22:41 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

Madsen & Sagstrom beaten 1UP bv N Korda & Ewing

The Europeans are going to need a birdie on the last to eke out a half here because Nelly Korda has just nailed her putt for par.

Ally Ewing still has a chance to close out the match but her birdie putt stays on the green.

So, Nanna Koerstz Madsen is first up. From the fringe. It's curling... but not enough.

It's down to Madelene Sagstrom and given she was the one that lifted the US ball on the 13th green that controversially gave them the lead, how fitting would it be to see this drop. She doesn't give it enough though. The ball pulls up a foot short.

It's a first point for the US.

Missed chance! No doubt about it.

Carlota Ciganda cannot believe it. She has pushed her putt left.

This match remains in the balance going down the 18th.

Carlota Ciganda is in the second cut down on the 17th. What can she do from here.

She's known as a shot maker but frankly this is ridiculous. She absolutely smashes an eight or nine iron into around five feet.

    S.E.N.S.A.T.I.O.N.A.L.

Sophia Popov, Jennifer Kupcho and Lizette Salas all have putts from downtown.

    Advantage Europe.

  5. Nordqvist & Castren win 4&3published at 22:25 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    4UP Nordqvist & Castren v Thompson & Harigae (15)

All over. Lexi Thompson is up trying to give the Americans a stay of execution.

No joy though with that putt and Anna Nordqvist and Matilda Castren have done the business again.

A great day for the Scandinavian duo who have collected two points for Europe.

  6. US take one-shot lead down 18 in top matchpublished at 22:23 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Madsen & Sagstrom v N Korda & Ewing 1UP (16)

The top match is on the 17th green. Is this going to be the end of Europe's challenge?

Nanna Koerstz Madsen is first to try for birdie, her 30-footer bending off right and missing on the low side.

Here's Ally Ewing. She's putting for par though. 20 feet. Makes it. Wow. Great putt.

That leaves Nelly Korda with a putt from just off the front edge, straight up the hill. Not enough pace.

Nanna next to go. Rolls in for par. So Madelene, 20 feet for a hole-winning birdie... down and across a slope though. Tough. Nope.

US one up going down the last.

  7. Popov levels the matchpublished at 22:22 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Ciganda & Popov A/S Kupcho & Salas (16)

Look at what this means to Sophia Popov.

The German lasers an iron shot in towards the pin and has a shortish putt to win the 15th.

She manages to check her emotions and send it right into the heart of the cup.

A little less red on the leaderboard.

    4UP Nordqvist & Castren v Thompson & Harigae (14)

Mina Harigae and Lexi Thompson are fighting. Both knock nice looking iron shots on to the 15th green.

Anna Nordqvist responds by pitching one in next to Thompson's ball. Castren who absolutely boomed her tee shot away is still to play.

    4UP Nordqvist & Castren v Thompson & Harigae (14)

Huge cheers from the home crowd as Lexi Thompson drops in a 25-foot putt to save the match on the 14th.

The US duo are still four down with four to play mind so a big ask to mount a recovery from here.

  10. Postpublished at 22:05 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Madsen & Sagstrom v N Korda & Ewing 1UP (16)

Ally Ewing's birdie try from the back of the 16th green is woefully short. She doesn't borrow enough off the slope of the bunker to the right of the green as she's looking and the ball wanders about eight feet left of the hole.

Has Madelene Sagstrom learned anything? Yes she has. Much better line and much better result. Safe two-putt par.

That opens the door for Nanna Koerstz Madsen to have a good go at her birdie. She's a little too enthusiastic though.

Can Ewing match the par to stay in front? Dead centre.

    4UP Nordqvist & Castren v Thompson & Harigae (13)

Anna Nordqvist is playing some fantastic golf at the moment. It's almost like she is back at Carnoustie.

Birdie number five drops, as Europe take another hole and this match looks like it is on its last legs.

    Madsen & Sagstrom v N Korda & Ewing 1UP (15)

Nanna Koertsz Madsen goes pin-seeking from 150 yards with her second on the par-four 16th. The greens are too firm for that to bite though and the ball rolls 20 feet past.

Madelene Sagstrom from a similar range, ends up with a similar result, albeit 10 feet deeper into the green.

Nelly Korda goes bunker to bunker and short-sides herself. All down to her playing partner Ally Ewing from here you feel. The American makes the same mistake as the Europeans though. And to make matters worse, she will be playing before either of them and showing them the line to the hole.

  16. Kupcho sinks long-range puttpublished at 21:52 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Ciganda & Popov v Kupcho & Salas 1UP (14)

Oh dear Carlota Ciganda, with a disappointing putt opens the door for the Americans. Who waltz right through it as Jennifer Kupcho sinks a long-range putt.

Huge roars of USA now reverberating around the Inverness Golf Club. Who said golf was a quiet game.

    Madsen & Sagstrom v N Korda & Ewing 1UP (15)

Nelly Korda leaks her drive on the 16th into a fairway bunker. But her playing partner Ally Ewing has already split the fairway.

What can Europe do? Both players find the short grass.

  18. US 1UP with three to playpublished at 21:48 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Madsen & Sagstrom v N Korda & Ewing 1UP (15)

Ally Ewing is first to go and rattles a putt up and out of the hollow. The ball never threatens the hole. Nelly Korda is next to play. From 35 feet she's three-feet shy.

Two chances for Europe to take this hole.

Nanna Koertsz Madsen can have a good go at her birdie chance. It's up the hill, about 30 feet. She knocks it to gimme range.

Just Madelene Sagstrom to go, with her wedge. Flag out. She fancies this. Nope, doesn't give it enough of a bump. Hole halved.

Brilliant from Carlota Ciganda, who takes the perfect approach in from the left on the 14th to flop an iron shot in to birdie range.
