Rory McIlroy's dreams of winning another major at Kiawah Island nine years after he claimed the PGA Championship the last time it was staged here have never looked like materialising this week.

The Northern Irishman has had colourful cards the past two days and began his third round at three over, but he's only slid further away from the lead today with three bogeys and a solitary birdie.

BBC golf correspondent Iain Carter said the four-time major champion would find it hard to replicate his 2012 success this week, despite winning for he first time in 19 months last time out.
