    Qemah ran out a second French winner of the day when landing the Duke of Cambridge Stakes following the earlier success of Le Brivido.

    The 5-2 favourite, ridden by Gregory Benoist for Jean-Claude Rouget, held off the fast-finishing outsider Aljazz by three quarters of a length.

    It was a second Royal Ascot win for the four-year-old Qemah, owned by Al Shaqab Racing, after victory in the Coronation Stakes last year.

    Compatriot Usherette, successful in 2016, struggled for room before closing to finish another neck away.

    With Laugh Aloud a non-runner, the French filly Qemah is clear favourite for the Duke of Cambridge Stakes (15:40 BST).

    The four-year-old, who will be ridden by Gregory Benoist for trainer Jean-Claude Rouget, won the Coronation Stakes at the meeting last year.

    American challenger Happy Like A Fool, the odds-on favourite, had to settle for second as Heartache won the Queen Mary Stakes.

    Winning trainer Clive Cox once again showed his aptitude for handling sprinters, with jockey Adam Kirby making use of his mount's high draw.

    There were jubilant scenes in the winner's enclosure for owners, the Hot To Trot Syndicate which boasts 75 members.

    The American challenger represents trainer Wesley Ward, who has won this race three times, including the last two runnings.

    Ryan Moore takes the ride for Ward, who landed the King's Stand Stakes on Tuesday with Lady Aurelia.

    The Queen's quick outfit change has left many punters stumped and bookmakers smiling.

    Her Majesty wore blue at the State Opening of Parliament but by the time she arived at Royal Ascot, she had changed into yellow.

    William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said his betting firm had taken just 13 bets on yellow.

    He added: "After seeing the Queen wear a blue hat for her speech in parliament, many punters expected her to remain in her clothing for Royal Ascot.

    "However, they were left disappointed when she was seen in her procession in a yellow hat, the second favourite in our betting."

    French colt Le Brivido won the opening Jersey Stakes on day two of the 2017 Royal Ascot meeting.

    The 2-1 favourite, trained by Andre Fabre, held on under Pierre-Charles Boudot to deny Aidan O'Brien's 66-1 outsider Spirit Of Valor.

    Josephine Gordon had hoped to become only the second female jockey to ride a winner at the meeting, but Dream Castle finished fifth. She rides Gymnaste in the Sandringham Handicap at 17:35 BST.

    The action kicks off on day two of Royal Ascot with the Jersey Stakes (14:30 BST) and it could prove a significant race.

    Josephine Gordon bids to become only the second female jockey to have a winner at the meeting - 30 years after Gay Kelleway.

    The 24-year-old rides Dream Castle, a leading contender for Godolphin trainer Saeed bin Surror. Rivals include the French colt Le Brivido, and Daban for John Gosden.

    She will be joined by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, but not Prince Philip, who has been taken to hospital as a "precaution".
