Yet another race with a very strong Irish contingent at the head of the market.

Corbett’s Cross has shown lots of improvement this year and moved to trainer Emmet Mullins in January and the improvement could continue today.

Monty’s Star has the same owners as Gold Cup challenger Minella Indo and could continue also continue his upward trend.

But there are also claims for the likes of Three Card Brag for Gordon Elliott, the Willie Mullins-trained Embassy Gardens and Hidden Valley Lake for Henry de Bromhead.

Galopin Des Champs is the clear favourite for the Gold Cup and now he's had the Royal seal of approval.

Zara Tindall - the late Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter - says she is backing the Willie Mullins-trained seven-year-old.

"Did I pronounce that right," she asks.

No idea. Thankfully we just have to spell it right here.

    Best Mate statue

Flowers have been laid at the statue of triple Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Best Mate.

Matey, who carried the claret and blue colours of Aston Villa fan Jim Lewis, took the big race in 2002, 2003 and 2004 for trainer Henrietta Knight and jockey Jim Culloty.

A card has been left in tribute to Lewis, who died recently aged 88, which reads: "RIP Jim Lewis - Racing's Best Mate:"

Before his beloved horse's first Gold Cup win, Lewis had said: "Don't look back if you can't smile. Don't look forward if you can't dream."
