    Q3: England 44-18 Barbados

Back underway for the third quarter, more changes to report.

Geva Mentor is back on at goal keeper while Funmi Fadoju makes her World Cup debut at goal defence.

Imogen Allison is in at centre while Chelsea Pitman comes on at wing attack meaning Nat Metcalf moves to goal attack, not her usual position so we'll see how she gets on there.

  2. Scotland lead Malawi at half-timepublished at 19:55 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    HT: Scotland 29-22 Malawi

In the other Pool B match, Scotland are showing that their early lead was no fluke and have stayed ahead against Malawi at the end of the second quarter, although the gap has been narrowed.

Coached by former England international Tamsin Greenway, the Scots lost that second quarter 13-12 as Malawi looked to turn the tide. The third quarter of this will be fascinating.

    HT: England 42-18 Barbados

England's Jade Clarke manages a quick chat with television at half-time before she disappears off into the changing room. Remember she is making her 201st appearance at her sixth World Cup.

"It's really special to be on this court in front of these fans," said Clarke. "What a game, Barbados pushed at the beginning and tested our range with lots of speed in attack with Sasha and Kadeen [Corbin]."

  4. HALF-TIMEpublished at 19:48 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Q2: England 42-18 Barbados

A lot of tussle in the England shooting circle. Non contact is it?

Fran Williams does well to win the ball back in the defensive third and England manage to work it up to the shooters just in the nick of time as Tchine sinks one and the buzzer sounds for half-time.

A dominant first half from the Roses and Jess Thirlby will be largely happy with that.

    Q2: England 38-17 Barbados

Liv Tchine is a bit more of a target woman in England's shooting circle and the Roses are managing to pick her out.

She's put up 14 of her 17 attempts in this quarter alone.

  6. Postpublished at 19:43 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Q2: England 35-16 Barbados

Bit of messing around from England in the shooting circle and Barbados take advantage, pouncing on a loose ball. Pinged in to the circle at the other end and Kadeen Corbin rewards that hard work.

It's not been all perfect for England, despite a very comfortable scoreline.

    Q2: England 32-13 Barbados

Seven minutes left until half-time and England are just ticking the scoreboard over very nicely.

Fran Williams almost pulls off a superb intercept then Layla Guscoth flies in to attempt one of her own. Quick pause as the court is wiped.

    Q2: England 30-12 Barbados

Laura Malcolm is also in at wing defence, replacing Imogen Allison.

Lovely take from Kadeen Corbin who smiles as she sinks that shot, she's enjoying herself out there.

  9. Postpublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Q2: England 24-9 Barbados

Fran Williams also replaces Geva Mentor at goal keeper.

She had a ridiculously good season with Loughborough Lightning this year, winning the Super League in June.

  10. Can Scotland cause an upset?published at 19:33 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Q1: Scotland 17-9 Malawi

Is an upset brewing over on the other court at the Cape Town International Convention Centre?

Scotland - in the same Pool B as England - have enjoyed a brilliant start against Malawi.

The Scots, ranked 10th in the world, lead Malawi - ranked sixth - 17-9 after the first quarter in a score that arguably few would have predicted.

    Q2: England 21-8 Barbados

Ah, the answer to that is now.

Off comes Eleanor Cardwell and in comes youngster Olivia Tchine, making her World Cup debut.

She gets her eye in early with the first goal of the second quarter.

  12. Q1: England 20-8 Barbadospublished at 19:28 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

That's quarter-time and it's been a dominant start from England, as you might expect.

Good defensive work all over the court with even goal attack Housby getting in on the intercepts means the Roses have a decent marker down in this opening quarter.

Just how soon will we see Jess Thirlby ring the changes?

  13. Postpublished at 19:27 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Q1: England 20-7 Barbados

I think there may be chants of 'netball's coming home' ringing around the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

Quite a lot of Roses fans are in attendance, waving flags and wearing their England merch and clearly getting in the spirit of things.

    Q1: England 17-6 Barbados

Good patience from England to work the ball in to Cardwell.

Five on the spin for the goal shooter, who is coming into her debut World Cup on the back of a superb Super Netball League win with Adelaide Thunderbirds in Australia.

    Q1: England 11-5 Barbados

Half-way through the first quarter and England are just starting to pull away.

Allison overcooks her pass in to Housby and that was a bit wasteful. But, England recover with an interception further up the court and Cardwell rewards under the post.

  16. Postpublished at 19:19 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Q1: England 7-3 Barbados

We have seen big wins today from the top four sides - Australia, New Zealand and Jamaica.

England will want to lay down a similar marker here. Tougher tests are to come so if England can get a feel for where they're at today they will be pleased.

  17. Postpublished at 19:16 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Q1: England 4-3 Barbados

Kadeen Corbin sinks her first ever goal in a Barbados dress on the big stage.

It's interesting watching her and sister Sasha interact, they know each other so well and have done this so many times in the red dress.

It's been pretty seamless from the pair so far.

  18. Postpublished at 19:12 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Q1: England 1-0 Barbados

It's England and their most capped ever player Jade Clarke to get us under way, this is her 201st Roses cap. Incredible longevity.

Worked straight down to Eleanor Cardwell and England are off the mark in the World Cup.

After a very long Barbados national anthem, the England players belt out theirs.

A quick huddle and we're about ready to go in Cape Town.

First up, we'll have the national anthems.

The England players are wearing black armbands this evening in memory of head coach Jess Thirlby's father, Chris, who passed away a couple of weeks ago.
