    Fermanagh v Monaghan (14:00 BST)

Our TV sideline reporter Thomas Kane is emphatic that Quigley is ruled out by injury with Ciaran Corrigan drafted in.

I would never doubt our TK's word so that's that as far as I am concerned. Quigley on the bench. Corrigan starts.

Oisin McConville says Quigley's absence is a "massive blow" for the Ernemen.

In their defeat of Armagh, Fermanagh harnessed the pace and dash of Declan McCusker, Barry Mulrone and Kane Connor to attack from deep and cut through their opponents’ defence but the big question is if they will be allowed to do the same again today against the likes of Dessie Mone and Vinny Corey.

In defence, Michael Jones is expected to shadow Conor McManus but he will need support to keep the Farney star under wraps.

Monaghan’s impressive cohesion against Tyrone was built on a furious work ethic throughout the team, which saw the likes of McManus and Jack McCarron frequently dropping back to help their own defence while veteran defenders Drew Wylie and Dessie Mone popped up for crucial scores at the other end.

Rory Beggan’s place-kicking is a vital source of possession for Malachy O’Rourke’s side but today they will need to flood the midfield area if they are to nullify Fermanagh’s pairing of Eoin Donnelly and Ryan Jones.

  3. Hold on a minute - Quigley is out on the fieldpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 3 June 2018

    Fermanagh v Monaghan (14:00 BST)

Are Fermanagh playing us here a little bit? Seamus Quigley is now out on the field with his tracksuit off. We're not going to know whether he does actually start until the ball is thrown in.

    Good old championship mind games.

Monaghan are unchanged - we're told.

  4. Team news: Seamus Quigley out for Ernemen?published at 13:40 British Summer Time 3 June 2018

    Fermanagh v Monaghan (14:00 BST)

A big bit of team news has just emerged. We're being told that Seamus Quigley is out for Fermanagh. That has to be a huge blow for the Ernemen.

Quigley has got himself into the best shape of his career this season but apparently won't start today as Ciaran Corrigan is drafted into the attack.

The Roslea man hit six points in the opening win over Armagh.

A fortnight ago, Monaghan came here and sacked Mickey Harte’s Tyrone, ending their prospects of a third consecutive Ulster title in process. Today, the Farney Army marches on Healy Park once again.

This time, however, they are not here to storm the Omagh citadel or dethrone the champions. They are no longer the underdogs, instead they are now the big scalp for Fermanagh to target.

The two sides met last year in the preliminary round, which Monaghan won by nine points, but of course Malachy O’Rourke’s men were upset by Down in the semi-final – a fate they will be determined to avoid today.

It is a decade since Fermanagh were last in an Ulster final and Monaghan were among the teams they saw off on their way to that decider so the Ernesiders will be hoping for history to repeat itself again this afternoon.

  8. Can Gallagher outwit O'Rourke at Omagh?published at 13:25 British Summer Time 3 June 2018

    Fermanagh v Monaghan (14:00 BST)

It's all been a bit of a rush in the new 'Super Eights' era as we're already at the semi-final stage in Ulster with neighbours Fermanagh and Monaghan meeting in the opening provincial football semi-final at Healy Park.

Malachy O'Rourke's Farney men go in as strong favourites after ending Tyrone's three-in-a-row hopes in the previous round as Conor McManus' late show saw off the Red Hands.

But Fermanagh were extremely organised and efficient as they saw off an admittedly woeful Armagh at Enniskillen two weeks ago.

A super lean Seamus Quigley sums up the work and preparation put in by Rory Gallagher's squad this year which has already included winning promotion to Division Two of the League.

Gallagher is one of the top tacticians in modern day football in addition to being a great reader of the game from the sideline so Erne fans will believe that their team can spring a surprise today.
