    Northern Ireland 0-0 Latvia

Good start to the second half from Northern Ireland.

First-time ball into the box by Kirsty McGuinness and Marissa Callaghan got on the end of it, but couldn't connect properly and her effort goes wide.

  2. Republic also level at the breakpublished at 20:02 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Republic of Ireland 2-2 Australia

Nowhere near as much on the line in Dublin, but the Republic of Ireland women are in friendly action against Australia.

And it sounds like an entertaining game with a 2-2 scoreline at the break.

Lucy Quinn and Denise O'Sullivan scored for Vera Pauw's team, with Mary Fowler getting both Australia goals.

  3. HALF-TIMEpublished at 19:52 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Latvia

Not the half that Northern Ireland would have hoped for on their return to Windsor Park.

They've lacked fluidity going and struggled to create chances, though Sarah McFadden did hit the crossbar with a header from a Kirsty McGuinness cross.

A rare break from the visitors early on forced Jackie Burns into action, with the Northern Ireland keeper saving well with her feet from Olga Sevcova.

Lauren Wade had a good chance just before the half-time whistle blew, but wasn't able to hit the target.

There was a big cheer from the home support as the half-time whistle blew, and it would have been even more loud if Wade had buried that chance right at the end of the half.

The poor Swiss officials got the shock of their lives as the teams walked off when the built-in sprinklers gave them a soaking on the far side of the pitch. The ground staff at Windsor Park weren't mucking about there.

  5. Weak from Wadepublished at 19:49 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Latvia

Right at the end of the half, Northern Ireland had a good chance to open the scoring.

Lauren Wade got in the down the right channel but her weak shot dragged wide of the far post.

She should have hit the target at least, even if the angle was tight enough.

It's a first Northern Ireland start for Kerry Beattie tonight.

The Glentoran striker is working hard up front but she hasn't had much to feed off so far.

  7. That's confidence for youpublished at 19:43 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Latvia

Latvia's Karina Miksone must have been well over 40 yards from goal there but tried an audacious lob.

It was a decent effort but Jackie Burns in the home goal was alert to it and was able to make a comfortable save.

  8. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 19:38 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Latvia

    That was close.

Kirsty McGuinness with an inviting inswinging cross from the right, it was met well by Sarah McFadden but her looping header came back off the crossbar.

That gave the home crowd a lift.

  9. Postpublished at 19:36 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Latvia

She was on the scoresheet on Friday night, but Lauren Wade has been off target with a few long-range efforts tonight.

This one was ambitious and her dipping left-foot strike went well over the crossbar.

Still all a bit flat so far from the hosts, who look like they could do with a spark.

The Latvians have certainly done their homework on Northern Ireland are are sticking like to glue to the likes of Kirsty McGuinness and Rachel Furness, stopping them have their usual influence on the game.

It should be noted that Austria only led 2-1 against Latvia on Friday but ran in five second-half goals. If Northern Ireland keep knocking then the door is bound to open.

Kenny Shiels knows how important it is for his side to hear the support of the Windsor Park crowd and you can certainly do that. Their noise is not lost in the stadium.

  12. Big save from Burnspublished at 19:22 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Latvia

That was a big save from home keeper Jackie Burns.

From nowhere, Latvia's Olga Sevcova broke free down the left and cut inside before hitting a low shot, but Burns was alive to make a smart save with her feet.

A goal for the visitors is certainly not in the Northern Ireland script tonight.

Are there a few nerves in the home side?

The opening 15 minutes have not been just as fluid as we have come to expect from Northern Ireland, with a number of misplaced passes.

They've still been well on top, but are yet to create any clear-cut opportunities.

  14. Postpublished at 19:10 British Summer Time 21 September 2021

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Latvia

Northern Ireland manager Kenny Shiels had called for home fans to fill Windsor Park tonight.

It was probably an ambitious ask, with early indications suggesting the 18,000-capacity stadium has between 3,000 and 4,000 fans in tonight.

I've never been to Wimbledon, but I imagine this is a bit what it is like.

It's been frantic, fast stuff on the expansive Windsor Park pitch and, with three at the back, there's no doubt that Kenny Shiels wants goals tonight.

It's been a bit loose so far and Shiels will be calling on his experienced heads to calm everything down a touch.

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Latvia

Northern Ireland have been dominant in the opening few minutes, even if a few early passes have been a bit wayward.

Kirsty McGuinness has seen quite a lot of the ball and the winger on the other side, Lauren Wade, has just fired a shot over the bar after cutting inside.

This being captain stuff is thirsty work.

Kenny Shiels issued a rallying cry for the Green and White Army to come and support his team tonight and there are several thousand fans here at Windsor Park.

There may not be as many as a big men's international but those in attendance made some noise as the players came out.
