  2. Fermanagh denied win in Navanpublished at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January

    Meath 0-12 Fermanagh 1-9 (FT)

Fermanagh looked on course for victory for much of the Division Two opener in Navan but Meath hit the three closing scores to earn a 0-12 to 1-9 draw.

The exchanges were tight in the first half before Shea Cassidy's goal just before the break after a lightning move out of the defence helped the Ernemen lead 1-5 to 0-5 at the break.

A Sean Cassidy score increased Fermanagh's advantage but Meath responded with four unanswered scores as a Ronan Jones point had the sides level by the 48th minute.

Back came Fermanagh to lead by three following points from Oisin Smyth, Garvan Jones and Aidan Breen but Meath responded in kind with Eoghan Frayne's fifth point of the contest levelling matters with five minutes of normal time remaining.

Fermanagh had Joe McDade black carded in the 68th minute but the visitors held on to secure a point at Pairc Tailteann.

  4. The Allianz Football League is backpublished at 17:16 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January

It may not seem like it to many of us but it's a full SIX months since we had competitive inter-county football - no disrespect to the Dr McKenna Cup and the New Year other pre-season competitions.

Yes the big stuff is back. The League is no longer the shadow boxing before the championship. OK....you may not want to win the Division One Final or even be in it but it's certain that teams will be straining every sinew to retain their top-tier status.

It's get even more interesting when you drop down to Divisions Two and Three with championship spots - in most cases - decided by your position unless you happen to have won the Tailteann Cup the previous year or reach your provincial final.

The fixtures planners couldn't have come up with better games for opening day. This evening's Division One games are repeats of last July's thrilling All-Ireland semi-finals as Kerry host Derry in Tralee and eventual Sam Maguire winners Dublin renew acquaintances with Monaghan.

There is just one minor change in the respective camps with a certain Mickey Harte now in charge of the Oak Leafers. Will we ever get our heads around that one?

Our first streamed game of the league throws in at 18:00 GMT at the Athletic Grounds as Kieran McGeeney's Armagh take on Harte's old side Louth in a tasty Division Two derby.

McGeeney has added Conleith Gilligan to a management team that already includes Kieran Donaghy and Ciaran McKeever. Could that finally get Armagh over the line?

We hope you enjoy our coverage this evening and throughout the course of the league.
