  4. Breffni side maintain promotion hopespublished at 18:54 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March

    Cavan v Meath (19:00 GMT)

Cavan kept their promotion bid in Division Two very much alive by edging out Louth in a 2-13 to 3-9 thriller in Ardee last Sunday.

Gerard Smith slammed into the net early on to give the Breffni County an early lead. But a penalty from Sam Mulroy and Ryan Burns' major soon turned the tide and Cavan were 2-3 to 1-5 down at half-time.

Ciaran Smith's strike early in the second period gave Cavan the advantage once more in a helter skelter encounter. When Mulroy converted his second goal it looked like Louth would steal the points.

But Tiarnan Madden stemmed the hosts' barrage before Cavan finally landed the decisive score to gain what could be a huge two points.

    Cavan v Meath (19:00 GMT)

Armagh and Donegal occupy the promotion spots in Division Two, with both on seven points, but Cavan (six) and Meath (five) are hot on their heels and certainly not out of the race.

That makes this evening’s game crucial, as whoever wins will remain in the mix going into the last two games, whilst whoever loses will potentially leave themselves with too much work to do.

Both sides won last week, with Cavan defeating Louth and Meath overcoming Kildare. The respective managers must have been happy with what they saw, as Meath name an unhanged team while Cavan make just one switch as Ryan Brady comes in for Oisin Kiernan.

    Cavan: G O’Rourke; J McLoughlin, K Brady, N Carolan; R Brady, B O'Connell, P Faulkner; K Clarke, J Smith; C Brady, C Madden, G Smith; C O’Reilly, P Lynch, O Brady.

    Meath: S Brennan; D Keogan, A O’Neill, B O’Halloran; C Caulfield, D Campion, S Coffey; R Jones, C McBride; D McGowan, E Frayne, J O’Connor; S Walsh, M Costello, C Hickey.

    Derry 1-11 Dublin 1-16

It's all over, Dublin inflict a first league defeat of the season on Mickey Harte's Derry.

Shane McGuigan top-scored with 0-7, Conor McCloskey with a first-half goal for the Oak Leafers, but Dublin were impressive with Brian Fenton delivering a superb second half.

Cormac Costello scored a goal for the Dubs within a minute of coming on but they were well worth the win.

    Derry 1-10 Dublin 1-16

Shane McGuigan and Lee Gannon trade points before McGuigan, with three defenders hanging off him, scores off his wand of a left foot for a special Derry score.

It might not be enough to earn Derry anything from this game, but it was fun to watch. He's scored 0-7 so far.

    Derry 1-8 Dublin 1-15

Lorcan O'Dell and Brian Fenton tag on further points as Dublin manage this one through to the finish. It's quick hands, runners off the shoulder, all very hard for Derry to stop.

Fenton has been majestic in this second half. Shame that Conor Glass is absent but hopefully Fenton v Glass is a duel coming our way some time in 2024.

Shane McGuigan tries to lob David O'Hanlon who is caught way out the pitch as Derry turn the ball over but O'Hanlon scrambles back and makes a one-handed save over his shoulder to flick the ball away to safety. You don't see that too often.

Earlier, Ross McGarry landed Dublin's 12th point.

Cormac Murphy is one of the new players for Derry this year and he looks like he belongs on this stage, scoring after a tidy bit of build-up play by the Oak Leafers.

This game is still finely poised.
