  • Monaghan v Cavan (16:00 BST)

  1. That's all folkspublished at 18:44 British Summer Time 7 April

    FT: Monaghan 1-12 Cavan 3-12

The first half at Clones was nothing to get too excited about but the pace certain lifted in the second period as we had four goals, which were rounded off by Paddy Lynch's match-clinching strike in the closing seconds as Rory Beggan was caught way out of his goals.

For much of the contest, Beggan, parachuted straight back into the Monaghan team after pursuing his American dream over the past months, looked set to be the game's central character as he kicked frees, sprayed beautiful passes and also made brilliant saves.

But Cavan, as Padraig Faulkner said above, never gave up and got their reward as the late strikes from Gerard Smith and the superb Lynch set up their quarter-final meeting with Tyrone on 21 March.

You can read more in my colleague Orla Bannon's match report here.

We'll be back on text commentary duty for next weekend's two Ulster SFC games at Pairc Esler and Brewster Park, which again will be live on BBC Two Northern Ireland and the BBC iPlayer.

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday and have a good week before the action resumes in Newry.

And Lynch didn't even win man of the match, as Philly McMahon gave the award to Rory Beggan second before the Cavan forward's late finish.

Cavan are fully deserving winners of that the game. They played by far the better football today. Fair play to Raymond Galligan. His side will take great confidence into the Tyrone game now even though people probably won't give them a chance.

If I was Monaghan, I'd be very disappointed with their lack of energy. But Cavan's game plan was perfect and they didn't look like their Division Two team today.

Is it kick or is it carry? Monaghan have no style about their play and they are being dictated to by Cavan's strategies which are working very well at the moment.

Cavan turn Monaghan over and Brian O'Connell finds himself with acres of space in front but opts to take his point with Monaghan players giving chase.

There are five minutes of normal time left but you'd expect a substantial amount of stoppage time due to that injury to Darren Hughes.

Cavan hit the front for the first time and in some fashion. Padraig Faulkner gets onto a long ball, spins clear and although he still had a bit to do, thumped a rocket of a shot to the roof of the net.
