Quote MessageIn their huddle during that injury delay, Monaghan will have been saying 'let's do it for Darren Hughes now'. They will be determined to up it a notch.
Monaghan 0-8 Cavan 0-7
Game back on and Conor McManus converts a free for Monaghan to edge them back in front with their first score of the second period.
Luke Fortune in for James Smith for Cavan.
Monaghan 0-7 Cavan 0-7
A lengthy stoppage following a huge collision around the middle of the field that leaves Darren Hughes requiring a stretcher with his right leg strapped up. Hopefully not as bad as it seems.

Quote MessageThe way the wind completely held up Beggan's last free shows that there is going to be no point in bringing him up the field to attempt long-range kicks in this second half.
Monaghan 0-7 Cavan 0-7
A 45 from Rory Beggan hangs and drops short - an indication of the strength of the wind Monaghan are playing into. Cavan go upfield and Oisin Brady kicks from deep for his side's first from play.
That brings the Breffni to life and Gerard Smith joins in with one of his own. It's set for a very interesting second period.
Michael Hamill replaced Jason Irwin at the break for Monaghan.

Quote MessageAs much as Paddy Lynch has been brilliant from frees, he needs to bring more team-mates into the play.

BBC pundits Michael Murphy and Paul Finlay are still giving somewhat hesitant votes to Monaghan even though Cavan will have the wind advantage in the second half.
Jim McGuinness says the condensed nature of the inter-county football season is disrespecting the provincial championships and must be altered.
McGuinness used Donegal's pre-championship media conference on Friday night to again state his unhappiness with the current split-season calendar.
"A couple of weeks will have to be found somewhere to give the provincial championships the respect that they deserve …..[and] to give the players the respect that they deserve," the Donegal boss told BBC Sport NI.
McGuinness acknowledged that his Donegal side are in a much better position than several other counties given the three-week gap between their Division Two League Final victory over Armagh and the Ulster SFC opener against Mickey Harte's three-in-a-row seeking Derry.

Quote MessageCavan haven't managed a score from play but Monaghan's rash challenges have gifted Paddy Lynch his five frees which are keeping his team in the game. Cavan's attack is very one-dimensional with a huge reliance on Paddy Lynch in open play as well but Monaghan's mistakes mean they are well in this game at half-time.

Quote MessageYou have to give credit to Cavan keeper Gary O'Rourke for making a brilliant double save but Monaghan's goal chance probably fell to the wrong player in Kevin Loughran.

Quote MessageI'd be very happy if I was Raymond Galligan at the moment (given that they played against the breeze). They have just got to be a little more direct in the second half and get the ball in a bit quicker to Paddy Lynch and their other forwards.
Monaghan 0-7 Cavan 0-5
Paddy Lynch lands his fifth of the half in stoppage time and Cavan's first since the 17th minute.
The Breffnimen trail by two at the break and with the wind to come, they will be relatively happy. However, they are yet to score from play.
An interesting second half to come.

Quote MessageCavan need more patience in attack - rather than forcing the shot when it's not really on. Particularly given that they are relying so much on Paddy Lynch's frees for scores.
Monaghan 0-7 Cavan 0-4
Conor McManus extends the Monaghan lead and then Jack McCarron lands a beauty to put three between them. After the nip and tuck beginning, now Monaghan have put a bit of daylight between the teams.
Monaghan 0-5 Cavan 0-4
Cavan with a couple of chances to level it up again but they go the wrong side of the posts
