    Lee Johnston Q&A

Where is the best spot to watch at the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT? -Niall

Lee Johnston: "At the North West 200, I think Black Hill or somewhere like that. It’s a really good corner. Or even down into York where there are some good passing places.

“At the TT? That's a tricky one. I would say right up in the mountains somewhere, in the middle of nowhere. It’s the most peaceful, scenic view. It’s a hassle to get there and get back, but I think that’s the most special. When I see people up there I know they have made an effort. It’s a cool spot."

    Cooper wins after first-lap crash

The Supersport class had been billed as a showdown between Richard Cooper and Davey Todd, but Thursday's opener was marred by a big crash at York corner.

Todd had taken the lead off the line but was collected by Adam McLean, who had misjudged his braking on the opening lap. Both riders were sent skating down the road, but emerged relatively unscathed.

Cooper took a comfortable victory ahead of Hickman and Michael Dunlop, who had a good scrap for the podium places.

Hopefully Pete [Hickman] can sort out whatever his problems are and Michael [Dunlop] can get the jump and actually hang on for the first couple of laps because his pace at the end was as good.

It's an age old thing and these things happen.

It's frustrating for Davey [Todd] and I can only imagine what Glenn's interview would have been like if it was the other way round. But Davey handled it well so credit to him.

Michael Dunlop speaking to BBC Sport NI:

"We just made a big step with the bike and I struggled in the areas and gained in others, but I felt good mid-race.

"My own stupid mistake. The problem with the bike, we made the change which made it better but we need to fix it. The area I ran onto the chicane again and I just struggled to get stopped, but it was my own fault.

"We are down in horse power that is for sure, I gathered that from the first lap. We can only do with the tools we can get."

Here's the moment Glenn Irwin surely dreamed about last: fending off Davey Todd to claim a record 10th Superbike race win at the North West 200.

It edges Irwin ahead of Michael Rutter and Joey Dunlop and it clearly meant a great deal to him.

  9. 'It's dangerous'published at 13:00 British Summer Time 11 May 2024

    Glenn Irwin wins Superbike Race

Davey Todd speaking to BBC Sport NI:

"Honestly devastated. To be honest, I just rode flat out and hard in the first race and lead from the front and tried something different in this race and let Glenn [Irwin] go a couple of times and sat behind and worked him out a little bit.

"Had a little practice rundown on the second last lap and thought I had this.

"I was so fast at Black Hill compared to Glenn and I had more pace on the coast roads so I just lined it out the lap before and set it up on the last lap and came across a back marker.

"What can you do, we both said the same thing, it's dangerous for us. You are catching them so quick and it's a battle at the front over fractions of a second and pinching of an inch and you don't really account for catching up on someone so quick."

It's safe to say Irwin and Todd weren't happy about the back marker in the final chicane, and Irwin called on race organisers to cut the grid for the final Superbike race of the day.

I feel a bit sorry for Davey Todd as he looked like he was having the run and in that instance you would look at the back marker and think the leader is going to second guess and if you brake a bit quicker you have more of an advantage.

But that didn't happen and he has been done over twice, but this time it wasn't his fault.

    Glenn Irwin wins Superbike race

Glenn Irwin, Superbike race winner: "I was thinking earlier about what I would say, it just means so much. Honestly, I've worked so hard for this every year. When I first arrived here, I think my talent carried me to some wins.

"From 2020, I've worked my backside off. I work on my mindset. I'm happy to have 10 guys behind me, but it doesn't bother me and that's why I keep winning."

Peter Hickman didn't complete the final lap. We're not entirely sure why, but it promotes Michael Dunlop back into third place.

That's three podiums in three races for Dunlop. Will he get the win later in the day?

    That decided it!
