Great Britain showjumping gold medallist Nick Skelton on BBC TV: "It is unbelievable. I am speechless for once. 

"Big Star was amazing today, justice has been done for him today. He deserved it.

"It has been a hard road, hasn't been sound. The last competition he won was in 2013 so today was a good day to win. Everyone has worked hard to get this horse back on the road, it is amazing.

"It has been tough. The last three years I knew if we got him right he was capable of doing it.

"He is the best horse I have ever seen. He's an incredible horse, he knows what's gong on and knows when it is important.

"I prefer to go first. He is a fast horse and I went quick enough but not stupid. It went my way."

Will he go to Tokyo? "I don't think so. I think when he retires I'll stop too. He'll be 17 then and I'll be too old."

Britain's Lutalo Muhammad knew he was going to be fighting in the semi-finals at 21:15 BST, but he didn't know who his opponent was going to be. Now he does.

Azerbaijan's Milad Beigi Harchegani - the reigning European champion - has just won his quarter-final against Iran's Mahdi Khodabakhshi to set up another showdown with Muhammad.

Harchegani beat the London 2012 bronze medallist in the quarter-finals on his way to European gold earlier this year.

The semi-final of the men's basketball is up and running, with the US holding a narrow lead in the second quarter.

The show jumping round is underway but I can confirm Harry Potter, the ride of a Turkish athlete, just got a little lost on the course and wiped out an entire fence. Four bars from the fence clattered onto the floor.

Only three athletes have gone so far, about another 17 before British interest is in action.

It's seven points lost for every fence knocked down, 10 for a refusal. Samantha Murray has around 50 points to make up so she needs to be as clean as the laundry.

Encouragingly, the horse she will ride - Up Class Girl - has just gone around error free under a Russian rider. The first calm horse we've seen.

Nick Skelton's success also means that Team GB have their 100th medallist of the Rio Olympics.

While the team's second-placed tally in the medals table numbers 57 - 23 gold, 21 silver and 13 bronze - the individual athletes honoured are now into three figures.

If you missed the news in the last hour or so - British show jumper Nick Skelton has become Britain's second-oldest Olympic gold medallist - despite retiring in 2000 after breaking his neck.

The 58-year-old, who is competing in his seventh Games, claimed individual gold after a six-way jump-off.

Great Britain boxer Joe Joyce after winning his semi-final: "He was keeping me on the end of his jab in the first round but he couldn't keep up with that.

"I started closing him down and making some shots. 

"I suspected I would be down after the first round and I thought 'right I better pick it up.'"
