Caster Semenya's words were almost as impressive as her performance last night.

"When you walk out of your apartment you think about performing, you don’t think about what your opponent looks like," she said after winning 800m gold.

"You just want to do better. I think the advice to everyone is to go out there and have fun. As much as you have fun in training."

Andy Bull in the Guardian's article on her win is excellent.

"Semenya has grown sick of the scrutiny," he writes. , external

"But winners are obliged to give press conferences, so on Saturday night she had no choice. She was so eloquent those listening could be forgiven for wondering why she hadn’t done it more before, until they remembered Semenya never asked to be put in this position, and that her body is no one’s business but her own."

Her smile lights up the boxing ring, and now Britain's Nicola Adams has two shiny Olympic medals to make her beam even brighter.

On Saturday, she became the first British boxer to retain a Games title for 92 years by winning gold in the women's flyweight final at Rio 2016.

The 33-year-old won a unanimous points decision to beat France's Sarah Ourahmoune.

Adams, from Leeds, has now won Olympic, European and Commonwealth golds and is the first Briton to retain her Olympic crown since middleweight Harry Mallin in 1924.

"I'm now officially the most accomplished amateur boxer Great Britain has ever had," she said. "I can't believe it."

Modern Pentathlon is a punishing and unforgiving Olympic sport.

One minute you're bossing it in the pool, the next your sprint-and-shoot goes awry and you're off the podium.

It's exactly what happened to Britain's Joe Choong, who was looking like a surprising medal contender before he unraveled in his final events, dropping from second to 10th.

Despite the disappointment, the 21-year-old was able to show some gallows humour on Twitter...

Germany's Robert Bauer, perhaps learning from Ryan Lochte's experience, has dug himself out of a PR black hole sharpish.

He reacted to defeat in the football final last night by reminding the victorious Brazilian fans of his country's 7-1 in the World Cup semi-final in the city two years earlier, brandishing seven fingers to the Maracana stands.

Just a matter of hours later, he was on social media in a Brazil shirt apologising for acting "emotionally" and congratulating the hosts on gold.

"It was a huge pleasure to play football in this country," he added.

    Ryan LochteImage source, O Globo

Ryan Lochte has combed his hair, put his best shirt on and appeared on Brazilian and American television to try and finally put that night to bed.

Lochte had claimed that he and a group of three other US swimmers had been robbed at a petrol station.

But CCTV footage contradicted that story, showing the men had vandalised the petrol station.

"I wasn't lying to a certain extent. I over-exaggerated what was happening to me," he said.

"Whether you call it a robbery or whether you call it extortion or us just paying for the damages, we don't know. All we know is that there was a gun pointed in our direction and we were demanded to give money," he said

He added that he was sorry, saying: "Brazil doesn't deserve that."

Russian swimmer Yuliya Efimova has told BBC Sport being at the Rio Olympics was "awful" and "a war".

The 24-year-old won two silver medals in Rio but was booed by spectators and criticised by her rivals after she was allowed to compete, having initially been banned by the International Olympic Committee because of two failed drug tests.

Efimova tested positive for meldonium earlier this year, but had a suspension lifted by the sport's governing body, Fina.

She was previously banned for 16 months after an anabolic steroid was found in her system in 2013.

At times struggling to contain her emotions, she says she "made a mistake", but only took meldonium before it was banned this year.
