It's the narrative that every Brazilian wanted to come true.

Rio's favourite son, Neymar, scoring the winner to earn Brazil their first ever men's football gold medal.

    The boy did good...

Brazil beat Germany 5-4 on penalties in the final, after the game finished 1-1 after extra time.

It comes two years after Germany thrashed Brazil 7-1 in the 2014 World Cup semi-finals in Belo Horizonte.

The crown stays with Farahpublished at 08:08 British Summer Time 21 August 2016

    Men's 5,000m

Mo Farah cemented his place as one of Britain's greatest athletes with his double success at London 2012, but now he can be classed among the world's most successful distance runners in terms of major medals.

The 33-year-old kept hold of his 5,000m crown on Saturday - earning his fourth Olympic gold medal and becoming only the second man in history to retain the 5,000m and 10,000m titles.

Farah won in 13 minutes 3.30 seconds to extend his tally as Britain's most successful Olympic track and field athlete of all time.

And what a race it was.

    World gold snatched from Farah

Over the last five years, Mo Farah has competed in ten major distance finals.

He has won nine gold medals. And one silver.

Jeilan - who Farah admitted he had never heard of until after the race - was the man to prevent a clean sweep, jumping from obscurity to glory in the final of the 10,000m at the world championships in Daegu in 2011.

Since then, on the track, in major finals, Mo Farah has been unbeatable.

Ibrahim Jeilan didn't even make it to the track at Rio.

The 27-year-old, based in Japan, was edged out in qualifying for Ethiopia's team and is kicking his heels rather than kicking for home.

But as Mo Farah sprinted clear last night to complete a distance double double, he could stand a little taller.
