Well, it wasn't quite the absolute fireworks and tries we've been treated to on the highlights reels from 2015 but there was a purist's quality to that first 40 minutes.
Definitely gripping.

Quote MessageHighly intense, highly exciting, as if the title depended on it. This game will come down to fitness, for sure.

Jordan Lilley's kick is the last act of the first half that has been gritty, tough and uncompromising.
Leeds lost twice to Warrington in the regular season last term and Tony Smith's side currently enjoy the first-half spoils too, Chris Sandow showing his predatory powers with a scoot to the line.
Not seen much of him and Kurt Gidley but that was ruthless.
Leeds trail, they've had oodles of field position and sets in Warrington territory but have not taken advantage. Danny McGuire's absence will be a real concern in the attempt to break Warrington down.
Frustrating for Warrington, who work a smart option on the right edge but Jack Hughes spills the ball with options waiting.
Let off for Leeds, not long to the break.

If there was ever a picture to sum up a game, then maybe it's this one.
Lots of graft, a few flashes of craft but so far it's perspiration 1, inspiration 0.
Nil on the scoreboard too.
Chris Hill ALMOST bashes his way over but he's stopped short and then there's a knock on and it's time for Leeds to breathe a sigh of relief.
Lots of effort, no end product.

The visitors get a chance to return the ball but from deep.
Leeds winger Ryan Hall dinks through on the last and almost hacks on to score but Matty Russell does enough to put him off.
Russell is then penalised for the knock-on and Leeds get a scrum again 10 metres from the try line.

Quote MessageLeeds are asking the questions but they're not finding the answers yet...
Chris Hill and Brett Delaney get their knickers in a twist. Hill concedes the penalty for lingering in the tackle.
Leeds tap.
TRY-SAVER. Warrington full-back Matty Russell gets there first to clear a Danny McGuire grubber. Pressure. Goal-line drop out and Leeds will get another set of six.
Not the best kick from former Parramatta half-back Chris Sandow - it skews off his boot and Leeds get the scrum just inside their own half.
Excellent take by Tom Lineham for Warrington after Leeds pepper him with a high ball.
Great signing in my opinion. Him and the aforementioned Westerman have great quality.
