  2. Goal is to win things - Makinsonpublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 1 June 2019

    FT: St Helens 48-10 Wakefield

St Helens winger Tommy Makinson told BBC Sport:

(On his try) "It was a good team move and one we've been working on for a while.

"Credit to Wakefield there, it was a real tough game.

"We're in a semi-final now. The goal for every club is to win things. We're a year older and a year more experienced."

Saints haven't been to a Challenge Cup final since 2008, that's a long, long time for a club of their stature. Well now they're just a game away.

They've emphatically beaten Wakefield by running in eight tries - with eight different scorers - breaking Trinity's resistance just after half-time to turn the result into a rout.

The runaway Super League leaders join Hull FC and Warrington in the last four and more than justify their tag of favourites.

    Who'd bet against them?

    St Helens 48-10 Wakefield

Great play from Wakefield, George King chips the ball over and chases and gathers himself before the ball eventually gets to Lee Kershaw via a huge miss-out pass.

He touches down in the corner, but referee Chris Kendall says forward pass.

    Not, Wakefield's day.

  5. Taia man of the matchpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 1 June 2019

    St Helens 48-10 Wakefield

    Jonathan Davies
Former Wales international on BBC One

I think Alex Walmsley has been immense and Morgan Knowles has been terrific but for all-round performance I'm giving Zeb Taia man of the match.

  6. try

TRY St Helens 48-10 Wakefieldpublished at 76 mins

    Kevin Naiqama

Superb play from Lachlan Coote who steps inside after Saints take the short side from deep inside their own half, he evades two tacklers before feeding Kevin Naiqama and that man has wheels.

No one is catching him. The winger sprints 30 metres and to the corner to slide over for a try.

    That's now eight different scorers!

Coote misses a tricky kick. He has been phenomenal today by the way.

  7. try

TRY St Helens 44-10 Wakefieldpublished at 73 mins

    Jonny Lomax

Seven tries and seven different try-scorers for Saints as Jonny Lomax goes over.

But hats off to Zeb Taia once again, he's taken the game away from Wakefield by scoring one and creating two tries in these last few minutes and gets a deserved standing ovation as he's substituted.

Wakefield throw a loose pass on the halfway line and Taia's on it quick as a flash before bursting through the line to run clear and give Lomax an easy score.

Lachlan Coote again adds the two.

Perhaps unfairly, this has turned into a rout.

Wakefield are pushing really hard in defence here trying to keep Saints in their own half even though the match is well and truly over. Great commitment.

  9. Saints providing 'royal entertainment'published at 16:56 British Summer Time 1 June 2019

It's an absolute joy to watch.

    It's royal entertainment.

  10. try

TRY St Helens 38-10 Wakefieldpublished at 67 mins

    Mark Percival

    Zeb Taia does it again.

This time Saints break from deep and Wakefield defenders are being thrown around by Taia like rag dolls, I swear I sore someone in a blue shirt run away.

He has all the composure to then pick a pass for Lachlan Coote on his shoulder, who unselfishly plays in Mark Percival to touch down.

    Coote adds the extras.

    Game, set, match.

  11. try

TRY St Helens 32-10 Wakefieldpublished at 61 mins

    Zeb Taia

That should be that. St Helens have been pretty poor this half, but have held firm in defence other than for a bit of Danny Brough magic. In attack they've looked terrible in comparison to their fantastic first half.

So what do you need? A big unit like Zeb Taia to simply smash his way through the defence and put this game to bed. Up the jumper score from the giant second row.

    Lachlan Coote adds the goal.

  12. Saints coach Holbrook 'not a happy man'published at 16:46 British Summer Time 1 June 2019

    St Helens 26-10 Wakefield

    John Kear
    Wales & Bradford Bulls coach

The errors are coming aplenty for Saints now.

Coach Justin Holbrook is not a happy man. Their play is just really loose.

    St Helens 26-10 Wakefield

Shake of the head from St Helens coach Justin Holbrook and then a few words that I'm not allowed to type on here. Unsurprisingly he's not a happy chappy.

His team knock the ball on as they were approaching Wakefield's line and it allows the visitors to clear.

Danny Brough kicks early and deep so Saints will have to start again from wayyyyy back.

    St Helens 26-10 Wakefield

Wakefield believe you know! Ryan Hampshire returns by running through numerous tackles to charge upfield and set up what looks like it's going to be a great Trinity attack.

If Saints are lacklustre, Jonny Lomax isn't. He sends down a crunching tackle as if to say "come on lads, time to wake up".

It forces the knock on and St Helens have the ball back.

  15. Postpublished at 54 mins

    St Helens 26-10 Wakefield

St Helens just haven't come out for this second half. They've barely been into the Trinity half.

  16. 'Great effort from Wakefield'published at 16:38 British Summer Time 1 June 2019

    St Helens 26-10 Wakefield

    John Kear
    Wales & Bradford Bulls coach

Great effort from Wakefield there and it was needed.

They showed great heart and desire to keep Saints out and they've done a good job of clearing their lines.

Danny Brough got the ball through the tiniest of gaps.

  17. try

TRY St Helens 26-10 Wakefieldpublished at 50 mins

    Tyler Randell

Wakefield were going side to side, side to side and getting nowhere. Cue Danny Brough. He threads a kick through with the outside of his left boot, it's just wonderful.

    Wow he is good.

Perfectly paced for Tyler Randell to run on to and keep Wakefield in this match.

That was reward for some superb defence just moments earlier.

Brough can't add the extras though, so they're still 16 points behind.

  18. Postpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 1 June 2019

    St Helens 26-6 Wakefield

Saints make their first foray into the Wakefield half since the break and almst force their way over next to the posts but for a mammoth defensive effort. A collection of blue bodies keeps Alex Walmsley out.

  19. Postpublished at 45 mins

    St Helens 26-6 Wakefield

Even a third set of six after a penalty doesn't do it, Saints hold firm and force Danny Brough into a poor kick.

  20. Postpublished at 43 mins

    St Helens 26-6 Wakefield

Wakefield's first set of the half starts from a scrum on halfway after a Saints knock on and it's a lot more patient and measured than the rugby we were watching in the first half.

It ends with a Danny Brough chip to the corner that Regan Grace gobbles up, but moments later Kevin Naiqama knocks on and Trinity have another set closer to the line.

This game needs Chris Chester's side on the board first in this second half.
