    St Helens 14-2 Catalans

Catalans win a set restart deep in St Helens' 10 and suddenly the hosts are under pressure.

However, right on the wing Sam Tomkins offloads to Tom Davies who spills it and knocks on with acres of space in front of him to cross for what would have been a certain try.

And the news we expected, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook has also failed his head injury assessment.

He won't be back and St Helens, 12-point lead or not, have lots to think about as time ticks down to half-time.

James Graham has failed his head injury assessment and will not play any further part in this game.

He looks gutted. This is his last home game for St Helens before his retirement.

Still no word on Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook but LMS looked completely out of it when he walked off the field so I can't imagine he will return.

"It’s a great try from St Helens. While you have to admire Catalans’ aggression in defence, it has been their undoing there."

    Kevin Naiqama, goal Lachlan Coote

A sixth try of the campaign for Kevin Naiqama and St Helens hold their nerve to extend their lead against Catalans.

And what a way to do it, with James Graham and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook off the field receiving a head injury assessment as well!

They work the ball so well with a succession of passes and Naiqama touches down at a canter.

    Lachlan Coote adds the two.

    St Helens 8-2 Catalans

Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook is on his way down the tunnel for a head injury assessment after coming off worse in a challenge with Michael Simon.

This is Simon's first appearance for Catalans since the start of this season. And what an impact he's had. Literally.

    McCarthy-Scarsbrook looked....let's just say dazed.

    St Helens 8-2 Catalans

Catalans force St Helens into a goal-line drop-out in their first spell of pressure in this game.

However James Maloney's wayward start to this game continues as he loses possession cheaply soon after their ascent upfield begins.

St Helens get possession back and normal service is resumed.

    St Helens 8-2 Catalans

James Maloney is back on the field for Catalans and the St Helens players are giving him a raucous welcome back.

As he collects a crossfield kick, he's brought down by four Saints players, including Regan Grace, before the ball goes into touch.

    St Helens 8-2 Catalans

James Graham appears to take a mistaken elbow to the head from his teammate Jack Welsby.

He comes off to receive some treatment but hopefully the Saints man isn't forced off for the foreseeable in his final home game before his retirement.

  10. PENALTY: St Helens 8-2 Catalanspublished at 20 mins

    Lachlan Coote

St Helens are throwing everything at Catalans now in an effort to really make use of their extra player.

A succession of attacks upfield sees Saints eventually win another set of six before Catalans try to buy some time and, in the process, concede a penalty.

Lachlan Coote kicks a further two points for Saints.

    St Helens 6-2 Catalans Dragons

    Andrew Henderson
Warrington Wolves assistant coach on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"Absolutely vintage James Roby there - close to the try line, using great deception, showing one way, coming back the other and brining players on the ball.

"He throws a nice delayed dummy then comes back to the short side and finds his man to get the try. It is a nice little short pass that finds him."

    Lachlan Coote, goal Lachlan Coote

We saw some, erm, robust tactics from Catalans against Leeds last week and it would appear that will continue this week.

James Maloney has sauntered from the field with no sense of urgency, holding up play.

When we do get going, St Helens don't take long to make their advantage count as James Roby tees up Man of Steel nominee Lachlan Coote to cross over and convert his own try.

    St Helens 0-2 Catalans

Good lord James Maloney has just almost taken the head off Regan Grace!

The St Helens winger is in acres of space on the wing and looks to pull off his trademark run in at the corner and Maloney goes in on his head with his arm.

Referee Liam Moore sends him to the bin. Can Saints make their player advantage count?

This is what is at stake in next week's Super League Grand Final.

Fans might not be at the Totally Wicked Stadium but the Super League trophy is in attendance this evening.

Can St Helens make it two wins from two? Or are Catalans here to cause an upset?

    St Helens 0-2 Catalans

James Maloney kicks the ball away on the turnover and the ball bobbles about the field awkardly in front of Lachlan Coote, stopping the St Helens full-back from collecting it.

Catalans are doing well to thwart Saints' efforts so far in these early stages.

  16. PENALTY: St Helens 0-2 Catalanspublished at 6 mins

    James Maloney

Catalans get off the mark as James Maloney scores his 61st goal of the season so far.

A decent start for the visitors.

    St Helens 0-0 Catalans

Deary me. James Graham gives the ball away to his namesake, and opponent, James Maloney as he looks to get St Helens further upfield.

Catalans capitalise on his error as they break into the Saints half of the field and they win a penalty in kicking range after Alex Walmsley puts in a high tackle.

In the break in play, Walmsley receives some treatment to his knee.

    St Helens 0-0 Catalans

Uh oh, Saints fans. Alex Walmsley moves away sheepishly following a tackle and seems to be in some discomfort.

He eventually plays on but that will be a cause for concern for Kristian Woolf in these early stages.

We are under way under the lights at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

It looks fairly chilly out there. Hopefully there's some early try-scoring to get things warmed up.
