The Women's Challenge Cup final is being shown on terrestrial television for the first time today

The match, on BBC Two, is expected to draw the biggest-ever TV audience for a women's rugby league game.

"The opportunity we get now, being on the BBC live for the first time ever, that's added pressure, but it makes it so much more special to be part of it," St Helens and England star Jodie Cunningham told BBC Radio 5 Live's Rugby League podcast.

"We're doing it not just for ourselves and our families, we're doing it for the women's game," she said.

"We want to put on a show and prove that this is something to get behind, something to invest in and that's an area of growth for rugby league."

Given their strong start in Super League and their England contingent, St Helens are certainly the favourites to lift the Challenge Cup this afternoon.

Derek Hardman's side have made a perfect start in the league, winning their opening three games by an aggregate score of 230-6.

Emily Rudge and Jodie Cunningham have tasted Challenge Cup glory plenty of times before with Thatto Heath, while fellow England international Amy Hardcastle lifted the trophy with Bradford in 2017.

But York City Knights have been a side transformed this season after director of rugby Lindsay Anfield joined from Castleford Tigers, and the side sit fifth in Super League.

Anfield brought with her five players from Tigers, who all featured as Anfield beat her former club in the semi-finals of this season's competition.

Centre Savannah Andrade ran in a hat-trick in that 32-4 win in the last-four victory, and will be one to watch today.
