Tony Smith's Hull KR stunned his old club Warrington to set up tonight's Super League semi-final at Catalans Dragons, only a year after finishing bottom.

The Robins finished sixth this season, three places below Wolves, but Jordan Abdull's late first-half try gave the visitors a slender half-time lead last week.

And they continued to upset the odds with further scores from Mikey Lewis and Jimmy Keinhorst to seal victory.

Like the Dragons, Rovers are now within 80 minutes of a first Super League Grand Final appearance, having reached the knock-out phase of the season for the first time in eight years.

Not only did the Robins score three tries, they also kept the Wire scoreless.

  2. 'We've earned home advantage'published at 19:33 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Catalans have been more affected than most Super League sides.

Last term and into the early parts of this season, the French side were forced to play the majority of their games in England due to the impact of Covid-19.

However, a stunning season saw them win the League Leaders' Shield with victory over St Helens at the Magic Weekend and now, like tonight's opponents Hull KR, Catalans are only 80 minutes away from a maiden Grand Final and with home advantage, too.

"It's reward for everybody involved with the club. We've earned the right to be at home in this game," head coach Steve McNamara said.

"When we got drawn at home in the Challenge Cup and had to play away, we didn't particularly agree with it but we understood the circumstances.

"Now, to get a game of this magnitude is great. It will be a special occasion, there's going to be a tremendous atmosphere."

Who'd have picked these two sides to be at this stage of the competition at the beginning of the season, eh?

But once again, Super League has picked up a storm in its closing stages and tonight two very deserved teams battle it out for a place in next week's Grand Final.

League Leaders' Shield winners Catalans Dragons have home advantage in tonight's Super League play-off semi-final against surprise package Hull KR.

    Kick-off is coming soon.
