Wigan score their points at the start of each half so Wakefield are going to need to be good here to not allow them to get the ascendency early.

    Wakefield 0-0 Wigan

Wakefield look composed with their first set.

Jai Field collects a very high ball on the last from Wakefield. The crowd put the Wigan full-back under pressure with some jeers as he steadied himself.

  6. We meet again...published at 14:29 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Wakefield v Wigan (14:30 BST)

It's been a long while since these two sides last met in the Challenge Cup.

You have to go back to the noughties for that encounter, with Wigan getting past Trinity in the fifth round in 2009.

More often than not, Wigan have prevailed against Wakefield in the cup.

But (and this is a very big BUT), two of Wakefield's five cup triumphs have come against Wigan in the final. The last of which was the last time Wakefield lifted the trophy at Wembley Stadium in 1963.

Wigan could "blow the game to bits" with a tactical revolution featuring their turbo twins Jai Field and Bevan French, according to former England half-back Kevin Brown.

World Cup finalist Brown believes a brand new double full-back system would bring out the best of the two speedsters and change the way the game is played.

  8. Wigan's French up for cup after tough time outpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

Bevan French's long-awaited return to Wigan Warriors duty off the bench last week in the win over Hull FC was fairly low-key for a player used to producing fireworks in cherry and white.

His second-half introduction for Liam Marshall was an understated cameo spent on the wing.

Yet, after the most arduous of 10-month absences, in which he had injury, rehabilitation and family bereavement to cope with, the 26-year-old is just happy to be back involved.

"It's been a long process," said French. "I've played rugby league all my life so to have such an extended period away was just hard.
