Penrith just starting to get Nathan Cleary, Jarome Luai and especially Isaah Yeo into their rhythm.

Yeo is so important in linking and knitting the play to get those two halves into the action.

That try has finally broken Saints, who have otherwise been impervious.

It was beautiful vision from Nathan Cleary, he could see the St Helens defence was up, he got the kick right and Izack Tago got it down.

They are back in the game.

    Izack Tago, con Nathan Cleary

Well-worked try from Penrith, all down to the vision of Nathan Cleary.

The Australia international kicked from about 35 yards out into the left edge with Saints jammed up and in...

Sunia Turuva was on his bike, Jack Welsby got across to stop him scoring but the second bite of the cherry was finished off perfectly by Izack Tago.

    Nathan Cleary nailed the conversion.

Huge kick by Lewis Dodd goes up, skyscraper of a boot and Stephen Crichton and Mark Percival tussle for it.

Knock on by the Saints man.

Alex Walmsley is back on for the visitors and has already taken a few into the teeth of the defence.

Nathan Cleary gets another kick away from the middle with excellent depth, height and trajectory.

St Helens full-back Jack Welsby takes the kick well, but Jarome Luai's chase ensures he's snared.

Then a mega-boot by Saints on the back of their set pins Stephen Crichton on his own line.

    Some excellent kicking on show.

Nathan Cleary squirts the kick away from midfield for Penrith, and the bouncing ball raises a few heartbeats in the Saints backline before Jack Welsby gathers.

Two secure sets from each side there. Getting into the armwrestle. Penrith know they need to sort out their execution.

Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook has passed his head injury assessment and will join Saints charge again on the field.

Penrith keep Saints to half-way in their set and it's a routine kick into back-field, with a spirited chase.

Certainly not going away from the game-plan.

Boos for St Helens as they troop out again. Classic 'Pom'-hatery.

    Penrith follow shortly after.

Here we go then. Panthers kick-off.

Great to see Lewis Dodd back after injury, although perhaps not everyone reading would agree given St Helens' dominance.

Dodd was flying until his injury last year, and has slotted perfectly into the side again. As if he was never away.

Two-minute bell has rung at least, so we're not far off.

They're delaying the start of the second half so the players are staying inside the sheds.

The rain is still coming down but the electrical activity is in the vicinity of Penrith.

They will stay in the dressing rooms for a little while longer.

Delay to the start of the second-half as lightning is threatening at Penrith.

St Helens fans are buoyant on the terraces at Bluebet Stadium, a few drenched, but mostly clutching pints and cans and soaking up the success.

Some classic old tops on show too, the old Stag '96 top being one of them. Think Karle Hammond, Ian Pickavance and Bobbie Goulding.

Super League also kicked off this weekend, just in case you didn't notice.

Warrington whacked Leeds on Thursday night, while last night Salford spoilt Leigh's Super League homecoming with a party-pooping victory.

Catalans edged a high-scoring affair in Wakefield too, with ex-Trin winger Tom Johnstone nabbing a hat-trick.

Hull KR host Wigan later today, while tomorrow it's t'other side of the city of Kingston upon Hull in focus, as FC welcome Castleford.

Saints were superb in many ways in that opening 40.

In attack, they used the triumvirate of Jack Welsby, Jonny Lomax and Lewis Dodd to perfection. Rotating the point of attack, rolling great kicks in with the short kicking game.

Defensively, it was tenacious, zealous and fanatical in a sense. They came up ferociously, with unerring stamina to shut down players. Isaah Yeo has been nullified. Jarome Luai too. Nathan Cleary has seen some decent kicks off the boot but even he has been quietened.

This has been an amazing 40 minutes. Penrith have been rattled. They are going to have to pull out something special because St Helens are right on top.

It's a bit of a different Penrith side I'm seeing out there at the moment, but you have to give credit to St Helens - they are running harder, they are tackling harder, they are beating Penrith to the punch on everything.

Every time there is a loose ball on the floor St Helens are on it.

Their scramble defence keeps coming up with the right play to stop Panthers and when they get the ball they are willing to roll their sleeves up, run hard and direct, and kick long and wait for Penrith to make mistakes - and Penrith are the ones who are making the mistakes.

I don't feel they have the flow and the class at the moment to get the ball where it needs to get to. The Penrith Panthers are really off.
