    Wigan 14-6 Warrington

    Paul Wood
Former Warrington forward on BBC Radio Manchester

It’s a double movement and a penalty for Wigan.

That relieves a lot of pressure for Wigan.

The referee has been outstanding today.

I'm maybe a bit dubious about the red card but other than that he’s been brilliant.

Warrington think they've scored a second try as Matt Dufty gets over, but his elbows were grounded before he went again to touch the ball down.

    No try. Penalty for Wigan.

Speedy Wigan full-back Jai Field fancies his chances of unlocking the Warrington defence but is brought to ground just in time.

The Wire gather a kick safely and they go again.

Needing to score twice, though, time is starting to run out.

    Wigan 14-6 Warrington

Wigan have been down to 12 men since the sixth minute.

The concerned faces in the Warrington end are hoping that will cause the Warriors to run out of steam.

However, it seems like some of the home players are being powered by those batteries that keep you going and going and going.

    Other battery manufacturers are available.

Now then Warrington, what have you got left?

They build an attacking set, albeit it's a little bit laboured, and it ends with Peter Mata'utia running down a bit of a blind alley into three cherry and white jerseys.

Callum Thompson: Liam Farrell has been one hell of a player over the years. Rarely takes a backward step.

  8. 'Exquisite attack'published at 16:00 British Summer Time 18 June 2023

    Wigan 14-6 Warrington

    Jon Wilkin
Former England international on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was an exquisite piece of attack.

A great ball from Toby King and a marvellous finish from Abbas Miski.

What a response from Wigan Warriors!

    Wigan 14-6 Warrington

BBC commentator Dave Woods was singing the praises of that finish by Abbas Miski and he's absolutely right to do so.

You probably see two or three of those every week in Super League, but that should never take away from the athleticism and acrobatics that so many of these players show.

Back come Wigan and they reply straight away!

Lebanon international winger Abbas Miski with a superb diving finish in the corner!

And a wonderful kick from the touchline from Harry Smith! Back to a two-score game with 20 minutes remaining.

    Jonathan Davies

They were short on numbers and Bullock just crashed his way over.

Warrington just have to keep possession now.

Wigan have been brilliant but the work they have done will take its toll on them.

  13. Bullock-ing run gets Wolves on scoreboardpublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 18 June 2023

    Wigan 8-6 Warrington

    Jon Wilkin
Former England international on BBC Radio 5 Live

Bullock used all of his weight and power.

It’s been an incredible defensive effort from Wigan but it’s the first spell of real Warrington pressure.

They have been pummelling the Wigan line and they come up with the try.

  14. try

TRY: Wigan 8-6 Warringtonpublished at 53 mins

    Joe Bullock, Stefan Ratchford goal

Wigan can't stop Joe Bullock though!

A short pass to the big man and he powers his way over from close range.

Stefan Ratchford sends the resulting kick through the posts and Warrington, having been second-best for much of the first 53 minutes, are now only two points behind.

    Wigan 8-0 Warrington

A spilled attempted interception by Jake Wardle gives Warrington a set of six 10 metres from the Wigan line.

Has Daryl Clark burrowed his way over? Referee Liam Moore says "no try"... and the video referee Ben Thaler agrees.

    Wigan 8-0 Warrington

Warrington full-back Matt Dufty claims a kick on the full inside his in-goal area and gets the Wire on the front foot.

But then a knock-on at the play-the-ball early in the set stalls any momentum absolutely stone dead.

Warrington coach Daryl Powell leans against a table in the stands and ponders how his team, who are second in Super League, could have performed so poorly so far.

    Wigan 8-0 Warrington

Morgan Smithies held up just over the line by Warrington! Super defensive efforts from a couple of visiting players.

Another cracking positional kick by Harry Smith to end the set - there have been plenty of impressive displays in cherry and white thus far but I'd fancy he'll be up there in the reckoning for player of the match if he continues in this fashion.

    Wigan 8-0 Warrington

Wigan are almost on the board again at the start of the second half, they get there first to another high, hanging kick but Abbas Miski knocks on.

Then early in Warrington's set, Joe Bullock is crunched by Ethan Havard and the Wolves man drops the ball.

    Micky Higham
Ex-Wigan & Warrington hooker on BBC Radio Manchester

I thought it was a really quick start to the half by Warrington but then it’s just another unforced error.
