Warrington are back on the field first and I'm sure I just saw Stefan Ratchford singing along to "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey, which was being played over the PA system.

So the winner of today's live BBC tie will play Hull KR in the last four. Far from an easy proposition.

That Leigh v St Helens semi-final should be a cracker as well (providing they get past Championship club York...)

Wigan captain Liam Farrell, speaking to BBC One: "Sometimes when you have 12 men it does galvanise you.

"We need to make sure we give ourselves a chance with the desire to battle.

"We have got to keep going, empty the tank and if we do that we give ourselves a chance."

More reaction to that first half on the way, plus we're going to have the draws for the men's and women's Challenge Cup semi-finals imminently.

I think both teams will be happy with the half-time siren to be honest.

    Wigan 8-0 Warrington

    Indeed it is.

Wigan followers might have feared the worst when Kaide Ellis was sent off after six minutes for an apparent headbutt on Warrington captain Stefan Ratchford.

But the Warriors have scored the only try so far through Toby King and are deservedly in front at the break.

Warrington's George Williams tells touchline reporter Tanya Arnold that the Wolves have made "way too many errors" in the first half, which has been another feature of the first period.

    Wigan 8-0 Warrington

Warrington prop James Harrison breaks the line about 40 metres from Wigan's try line but has very little in support and is brought down.

Toby King, the try-scorer, pouches a crossfield kick on his own try line and that should be that for the first half.

    Wigan 8-0 Warrington

For the first time, Warrington get within proper sight of Wigan's try line with a move down the right touchline, but the Warriors' defensive effort is outstanding and acknowledged by a huge roar from the home crowd.

    Four minutes until the interval.

  17. Warrington 'inviting Wigan to beat them'published at 15:12 British Summer Time 18 June 2023

    Wigan 8-0 Warrington

    Jon Wilkin
Former England international on BBC Radio 5 Live

Warrington have produced some abysmal rugby league.

They have rolled over and are almost inviting Wigan to beat them.

As a player you are petrified to walk down that tunnel at half-time.

If I was Daryl Powell I wouldn’t have the Alex Ferguson hairdryer ready, I would have an industrial scale blower.

They need something to shock them into action.

    Wigan 8-0 Warrington

Wigan look like the team with 13 against 12 at the moment.

Another Harry Smith kick causes chaos in the Warrington backline and it's only gathered by a white shirt after a couple of ricochets.

Wigan have performed admirably and intelligently since the early red card - complete the sets near Warrington's line, and defend stoutly when the ball comes back the other way.

They've been helped by some Warrington errors as well, it must be said.

Whether Wigan can keep this intensity up for the full 80 minutes with a player fewer is the key question.

    Wigan 8-0 Warrington

Tremendous play by Wigan with a kick over the top of find space, Jai Field feeds Liam Marshall out wide but Josh Thewlis makes a sensational last-gasp tackle to force the Warriors' winger into touch.
