Leeds v St Helens (12:00 BST)

Faye Gaskin's drop-goal with 30 seconds remaining booked St Helens' historic trip to Wembley today after their 17-16 Challenge Cup semi-final win over York last month.

In a thrilling encounter, York had levelled through Tara Stanley's penalty with just eight minutes left on the clock.

Stanley, however, then missed a drop-goal attempt of her own.

The see-saw tied ended thanks to Gaskin's heroics after Saints hit back through Shona Hoyle, Luci McColm and Tara Jones.

St Helens captain Jodie Cunningham is no stranger to the Challenge Cup having won the competition on six occasions.

In the past she has played in finals as varied as Dewsbury, Batley, Odsal and Leigh as well as last year's triumph at Elland Road.

But this year she will compete for silverware at Wembley Stadium in a historic final.

"My parents were saying to me - 'you're a generation too early' with all the good things that are happening now and I'm one of the senior players," Cunningham told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"But I count myself lucky that I got the opportunity to see it grow, and I've grown with it so I think you probably appreciate it a bit more because I've been there when it's been rubbish and nobody cared.

"To go to the opposite end of the spectrum where everyone talks so highly about the women's game, wants a piece of it and is interested, it's a privilege to have seen it go through this growth."

Leeds were edged out by St Helens in last year's Challenge Cup final at Elland Road, with the Red Vee sealing their second win in a row in the competition.

Despite the occasion, Leeds captain Hanna Butcher knows that any pre-match nerves will be shaken off early on.

"I hope I don't come across as emotional, but there'll definitely be some goose bumps walking out there," Butcher told BBC Radio Leeds.

"Hopefully within the first five minutes, everybody's nerves will calm down, but all the women on both teams - this is something we need to be proud of.

"It's going to be a really tough contest, a close game and I think it'll come down to game management."

Leeds v St Helens (12:00 BST)

    Matt Newsum
BBC rugby league commentator on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Today's showpiece is the shattering of a glass ceiling for the women's game, as Leeds Rhinos and St Helens walk out at Wembley for the first time in a Challenge Cup final on this ground.

The buzz from the players has been tangible since they booked their spots after the semi-finals, and their excitement has helped bring a new dimension to the final.

Walking around the stadium last night and this morning, there are plenty who have made the trip for this game in particular, with Saints and Leeds scarves and shirts on show.

As for the game itself, it is fitting that this occasion be contested by two genuine heavyweights, sides packed with England talent and recognisable faces such as Jodie Cunningham, Amy Hardcastle and Emily Rudge.

Hopefully it is the start of a fantastic day for rugby league and it lives up to the billing.
