We knew this Challenge Cup final was going to be different with none of the traditional rugby league giants involved.

But my word, Hull KR and Leigh Leopards gave us something special.

A last minute try from Matt Parcell to save Hull KR and take us to extra-time.

Then a match-winning drop goal in the golden point period from Lachlan Lam, the head coach's son, to win the cup for Leigh and their leopard print fans.

Both teams and the sport of rugby league have delivered a classic.

Leigh Leopards head coach Adrian Lam told BBC Sport:

"I lost a Super League Grand Final as a coach in extra time from a kick that hit the post but I know now people will talk about this for years to come.

"The Challenge Cup is coming back home to Leigh!"

Leigh Leopards try-scorer Tom Briscoe told BBC Sport:

"This is special, a new team, a great bunch of players, newly promoted, the journey goes on for this team.

"This the first thing we could have won this season and we've done it. It's unbelievable.

"We've got a lot of experience and the squad we've put together is incredible. The work put in to bring us together as as team is showing.

"The way we play and win games is exciting."

Hull KR's Shaun Kenny-Dowall told BBC Sport:

"I thought we fought really hard in the second half to get back into the game but I thought we didn't do well enough during golden point and Leigh did.

"Congratulations to Lammy for scoring the winning drop goal in the end.

"It was anyone's game at golden point but we didn't play that period of time good enough. We'll go back to the drawing board and see if we can learn some lessons going forward."

If you turn the TV and see that this afternoon and see that super star kick the winning goal and win the Lance Todd Trophy and you see the owner running around in leopard print and talking about serendipity, you'd be thinking what what on earth is this?

This has been a great game and a great spectacle.

Crazy, crazy dreams come true.

Leigh Leopards are the new kings of the rugby league jungle.

Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont told BBC Sport:

"I've never been through anything as hard in my life. It was the worst game of rugby for me watching that I've ever experienced.

"It's massive. I've got one word and it'll mean everything to everyone connected. Serendipity. It was our time and our turn.

"Massive respect to Hull KR what a spectacle. We're live on the BBC and it's massive and mainstream. No one deserved to lose that.

"Little old Leigh, we've come down, there's leopard print en masse, what a feeling."

52 years after their win over Leeds, Leigh are Challenge Cup winners once again.
