The Rugby Football League (RFL) is looking into comments made by Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont following their Super League defeat by Wigan Warriors last Friday.

Beaumont was critical of referee Liam Moore after Oliver Gildart had a try ruled out during the defeat.

The result dropped Leigh to fifth and lost them home advantage against Hull KR in Friday's play-off eliminator.

A compliance case against the club has been widened following his comments.

Shaun Kenny-Dowall is down to single figures now on his farewell tour of rugby league.

The former New Zealand international, who has represented Sydney Roosters, Newcastle Knights and Hull KR across 405 games in both hemispheres, will bow out once his 2023 commitments are over.

"It's a massive honour every time you get to run out there, but I don't see it as that," Kenny-Dowall told BBC Radio Humberside when asked about tonight being his potential final outing.

"I see it as the journey we're taking as a club and as a team, where we are in this competition and that's been my main focus.

"It's just a blessing, I'm very grateful to get to do it at Craven Park where I spent the last four years, running out there, our fans are unbelievable and it does give you goosebumps.

"Hopefully we can use that to our advantage because it's been a long time since we played a home play-off game."

  3. What happened last time these two teams met?published at 19:40 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

Hull KR v Leigh (20:00 BST)

What happened the last time these two met in a knockout game when the pressure was on?

Leigh won their first Challenge Cup for 52 years when they edged out Hull KR on golden point at Wembley in August.

Matt Parcell's late try had taken it to golden point but Lachlan Lam kicked the winning drop-goal on a memorable day for Leigh.

The Robins got their revenge two weeks later, however, as they thrashed the Leopards at Craven Park.

Will we see a repeat of that this evening?

  4. A potential play-off treatpublished at 19:37 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    BBC rugby league commentator

If these two teams can serve up as good a game as they did at Wembley, then we're in for a Super League play-off treat.

Hull KR have the home advantage, which means 12,000-odd partisan Robins fans will crank out plenty of noise, particularly from the East Stand. It's a mass of humanity when it gets going.

They have the emotional kicker top of saying good bye to Shaun Kenny-Dowall, at least in terms of home soil. He's staying on beyond this year as a coach but the opportunity to send him out a winner must be among Willie Peters' psychological prompts for his team.

Leigh have one trophy in the bank, the aforementioned Challenge Cup of course at the expense of Rovers, and their five Dream Team selections are testament to their quality.

They've never been at the top table like this before, albeit there are players with play-off experience here and in Australia such as Tom Briscoe, Josh Charnley and John Asiata.

However, Asiata hasn't made it despite being named in the 21-strong squad. The lynchpin could be a big miss given the Cowboys NRL Grand Final winner influence on the way they play.

  5. How the league table ended uppublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

Hull KR v Leigh (20:00 BST)

Here's how the 2023 Super League season ended.

Hull KR seized home advantage this evening thanks to their thumping win over already-relegated Wakefield Trintiy last Friday.

That win, combined with Leigh's narrow defeat by eventual League Leaders' Shield winners Wigan Warriors, lifted them up to fourth place at the end of the season.

  6. Welcomepublished at 19:31 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

Hull KR v Leigh (20:00 BST)

For the fifth time this season, Hull KR come face to face with Leigh Leopards.

From four meeting to date in 2023, the record reads: Three Leigh wins and one Challenge Cup trophy for the Leopards, and just the one win for the Robins.

And from two previous trips to Craven Park this term, Leigh have won one and lost the other.

It's now time for the fifth chapter of this bubbling rivalry which has already produced huge highlights this term.
