  1. Post update

So, the 61-year New Zealand hoodoo over Wales is unbroken.

Wales play South Africa next week with captain Sam Warburton confident of a win to end the series.

That's all from us here for today, but what will the Scrum V TV pundits make of it all? Tune in to BBC Two Wales tomorrow, Sunday 23 November, at 19:00 GMT to find out. And we'll keep you updated with all the news from the Wales and South Africa camps on bbc.co.uk/scrumv.

  2. Captain's thoughts

Wales skipper Sam Warburton: "If we take the same effort and energy into next week (against South Africa) we'll come away with a win I'm sure.

"The first half there were no tries and it was 3-3. We stopped them playing and you saw All Blacks making uncharacteristic errors.

"But the most important part of a Test match is the last 10 minutes, and that's where we need to improve."

  3. Gatland's reaction

Wales coach Warren Gatland: " I was proud of that display for 69 minutes. But they have a very good attacking game. They had a kick over the top and a good bounce and the cross kicks. They have changed the way they attack, it's not with ball in hand so much now, their kicking game was excellent."

  4. McCaw puts it down to experience

New Zealand captain Richie McCaw: "We've been there before. Even when they were ahead I didn't think we were under the pump and I felt we just had to stick in there. We did that and once we got the try we were on top."

  5. Hansen's pride

New Zealand coach Steve Hansen: "I don't think we wriggled off the hook. When you play against a good team like we've just played you have to go for the full 80 minutes. I'm very very proud of them."

  6. Post update

    Gareth Roberts

BBC Sport Wales at the Millennium Stadium

The scoreboard is going to flatter New Zealand. It was a real Test up until the last 10 minutes. Wales coach Warren Gatland cannot have asked more from his players, but the deafening roar from home fans has been transformed into an at times eerie silence in Cardiff where New Zealand rule again.

New Zealand fly-half Beauden Barrett scores his second try in the 34-16 win over Wales

  7. Jamie's tribute

Wales centre Jamie Roberts: "We knew their attacking kicking game was coming and we contained it well for 70 minutes, but they are a class act.

"I don't want to take anything away from New Zealand, I thought they they deserved to win today."

  8. Post update

    Phil Bennett

Former Wales and Lions captain on BBC Radio Wales

"What a cruel sport rugby can be."

  9. It's all over

    Full-time: Wales 16-34 New Zealand

So that's 26 consecutive defeats as the All Blacks produce a storming final quarter to run away with victory.

Wales were leading after 73 minutes, but three tries in fiveminutes emphasised the class of the world champions.

  10. It's all over bar the shouting

Jamie Roberts is named man of the match. But the crowd is silent now as the All Blacks see out time.

  11. Try for New Zealand (Barrett)

Wales 16-34 New Zealand (77 minutes)

The cross kick causes chaos in the Welsh defence again. Colin Slade's pinpoint chip is tapped down by Ben Smith to the supporting Beauden Barrett who claims his second try and New Zealand's fifth. Slade misses the conversion.

  12. Try review for New Zealand

Barrett crosses after Smith's tap down. Was the knock down forward?

    Wales 16-29 New Zealand

    Phil Bennett

Former Wales and Lions captain on BBC Radio Wales

"Mike will be disappointed with that, but it was slow ball. That's a devastating blow to Wales because they've given so much to this game."

  16. Clinical

Wales have given everything but when the All Blacks sniff a chance they make teams pay. Two tries in three minutes have silenced the crowd.

New Zealand fly-half Beauden Barrett scores the first of his two tries against Wales
Image caption: New Zealand fly-half Beauden Barrett scores the first of his two tries against Wales
  17. Converted try for New Zealand (Read, con Slade)

Wales 16-29 New Zealand (74 minutes)

It's all over now. Mike Phillips' clearance kick is charged down by the All Blacks number eight who picks the ball up and dives over wide on the right. Colin Slade converts from the right hand touchline

  18. Converted try for New Zealand (Barrett, con Slade)

Wales 16-22 New Zealand (70 minutes)

Beauden Barrett has had a mixed afternoon, but makes amends with a clever chip which bounces awkwardly for Leigh Halfpenny and the Kiwi re-gathers to run around behind the posts and score. Slade converts from in front of the sticks.

  19. Penalty for Wales (Halfpenny)

Wales 16-15 New Zealand (68 minutes)

Leigh Halpenny fires over from 40 metres after Richie McCaw is penalised. Wales lead again.

  20. North off

George North is taken off with a cut over his eye, to be replaced by Liam Williams.

  21. Post update

    Wales 13-15 New Zealand

    Phil Bennett

Former Wales and Lions captain on BBC Radio Wales

"That's a good try. A lovely cross kick. You can never write this New Zealand team off."

  22. Try for New Zealand (Kaino)

Wales 13-15 New Zealand (63 minutes)

All Blacks hit back. Richie McCaw is held up short after a galloping run down the right. New Zealand recycle and a cross kick finds Conrad Smith who pops the ball back inside to flanker Jerome Kaino who crosses. Beauden Barrett misses a simple conversion.

  23. Get involved

  24. Wales changes (62 minutes)

Luke Charteris comes on to replace Jake Ball and win his 50th cap and Justin Tipuric replaces Dan Lydiate in the back row. Scott Baldwin is on at hooker for Richard Hibbard.

  25. Post update

    Phil Bennett

Former Wales and Lions captain on BBC Radio Wales

"Rhys Webb has had a very, very good game. We know we have a competitor extraordinaire coming on in Mike Phillips."

  26. Post update

    Gareth Roberts

BBC Sport Wales at the Millennium Stadium

The home crowd really has found its voice now. The belief on the field has fully infiltrated the stands. The last times we had this sort of noise at a Wales game, they put England to the sword - at Wembley in 1999 and in 2013 in Cardiff, though the 2005 Grand Slam game against Ireland should also get a mention.

  27. Change time

Charles Piutau departs the stage as New Zealand re-shuffle their backs. Beauden Barrett drops to full back with Ben Smith moving to the wing and Colin Slade coming on at fly-half.

Mike Phillips comes on at scrum-half to replace a limping Rhys Webb.

  28. It's a cracker

A reminder how dangerous the All Blacks can be. Wales are turned over after an attacking line out and in the blink of an eye Leigh Halfpenny is having to scramble in defence. You can't take your eyes off it.

    Garin Jenkins

Former Wales hooker on BBC Radio Wales

"Wales have got the All Blacks rattled and it's fantastic."

  30. Penalty for Wales (Halfpenny)

    Wales 13-10 New Zealand

Leigh Halfpenny fires one over from 40 metres after the All Blacks second row Sam Whitelock is penalised. Wales are back in front.

  31. Changes

Another change in the front row for the All Blacks as Owen Franks gives way to Charlie Faumuina at tight-head.

  32. Handbags

This is a cracker now. The All Blacks attack but Aaron Smith loses possession and Wales are awarded a penalty to clear the lines.

A bit of a scuffle breaks out and the crowd really find their voice as the All Blacks are marched back 10 metres.

  33. Post update

    Wales 10-10 New Zealand

    Phil Bennett

Former Wales and Lions captain on BBC Radio Wales

"Wonderful response from Wales. New Zealand had taken the initiative but Wales showed character. Rhys Webb has looked very lively. Wales are right back in this game."

  34. Converted try for Wales (Webb, con Halfpenny)

    Wales 10-10 New Zealand

Rhys Webb and Taulupe Faletau combine superbly, and the number eight puts the scrum-half over close to the posts. Halfpenny's conversion is simple.

    What a response by Wales.

  35. Post update

    Gareth Roberts

BBC Sport Wales at the Millennium Stadium

Relief and joy for New Zealand's fans in that try - they've taken the initiative. Can Wales snatch it back? Their reaction in the coming minutes will tell us.

  36. Post update

    Wales 3-10 New Zealand

    Phil Bennett

Former Wales and Lions captain on BBC Radio Wales

"Dan Biggar did not have a hope in the world of stopping Julian Savea. Just the start Wales didn't want."

  37. Converted try for New Zealand (Savea, con Barrett)

    Wales 3-10 New Zealand

Wales are turned over in their own 22, and the ball is moved swiftly left where the prolific Julian Savea beats the cover defence to score in the corner. Barrett's conversion is a cracker from the touchline. It's Savea's first try against Wales.

  48. HALF-TIME

    Wales 3-3 New Zealand

Wave after wave of New Zealand attackers descend on the Welsh try-line, but first George North holds out Charles Piutau and then after a series of close range snipes the ball is spun wide to Sonny Bill Williams who knocks on. The half-time whistle is greeted by a huge roar from the home fans.

Terrific defence, but the All Blacks have dominated possession.

  51. Let off

  59. Ouch!

Wales are struggling around the fringes of the rucks and mauls with the All Blacks tackling in pairs and making the Welsh earn their yards. That's why they call them the hard yards!

  61. Penalty for New Zealand (Barrett)

    Wales 3-3 New Zealand

This time Barrett blasts the ball between the sticks from nearly halfway - strange after the earlier miss from close range.

  62. Penalty chance

The Welsh scrum is looking a little creaky and they give away a penalty on the halfway line. Barrett is lining it up.

  63. Penalty miss

  69. Halfpenny's points tally

  70. Order of the boot

  80. What are the chances?

When Wales last faced New Zealand in 2012, it was another defeat for Warren Gatland's men.

They did, however, score one of the most remarkable tries in recent memory when all but two of the Welsh players joined a rolling maul to put Scott Williams over for a try.

Unpredictable is an understatement - but Wales head coach Gatland hasn't ruled out a similar move today.

"We might see that again! You never know what could happen," he has just told S4C.

  81. Post update

    Gareth Roberts

BBC Sport Wales at the Millennium Stadium

For the first time this autumn, the remnants of the old National Stadium North Stand are not covered in the biggest Welsh flag most of us have ever seen. There's only one reason for that- the All Blacks are in town and Wales need their dragons to breathe some fire on the field.

  82. Here come Wales

The All Blacks form a circle and the crowd roars and the flame throwers go into overdrive as Sam Warburton leads out the Welsh team to a deafening roar.

  83. The atmosphere is building

There are two giant flags on the pitch and the All Blacks are coming down the tunnel led by Richie McCaw who runs out on his own to a great ovation from the Cardiff crowd.

  84. An odds tale

Bookmakers generally don't believe in fairy tales or happy endings, so unsurprisingly they don't expect history to be made in Cardiff today. New Zealand are 6-1 on to win a 26th consecutive game against Wales, while it's 6-1 against a Welsh victory. The draw, if you fancy an afternoon on the fence, averages 33-1.

  85. The All Blacks' view

New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen isn't taking anything for granted.

"We have picked the best team we can because this [Wales] side is a good side," he's told S4C.

New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen
Image caption: New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen
  86. Gatland's hopes

Wales coach Warren Gatland talking to BBC Sport's Sonja McLaughlan: "We want to beat the southern hemisphere teams. If you look two years ago England beat them (New Zealand) in the last game of the tour, Ireland should have won last year. They've been on the road for nine weeks and maybe they're a bit tired. The boys are nervous but they're excited."

  87. What do you think?

The odds may be against Wales, but what do you reckon? Returning centre Jonathan Davies thinks his team can succeed.

  88. The class of 1953

Here they are, the last Wales team to beat the All Blacks . . . and the men they beat.

    Wales: G Williams; K Jones, G Griffiths, B Williams (capt), G Rowlands; C Morgan, R Willis; W O Williams, D Davies, C Meredith, R Stephens, R John, S Judd, J Gwilliam, RCC Thomas. Tries: Judd, K Jones. Cons: Rowlands 2. Pen: Rowlands.

    New Zealand: B Scott; A Elsom, J Tanner, R Jarden; B Fitzpatrick, L Haig; K Davis; K Skinner, R Hemi, I Clarke, R White, N Dalzell, R Stuart (capt), W McCaw, W H Clark. Try: W H Clark. Con: Jarden. Pen: Jarden.

    Phil Bennett

Former Wales and Lions captain on BBC Radio Wales

"I think we're privileged to be here to today to see Richie McCaw lead the All Blacks for the 100th time. I want to see a Wales win but I want to see us show respect for one of the greatest players I've ever seen."

  90. Not invincible

Clutching at straws perhaps, but . . . . Cardiff is not always a happy hunting ground for the All Blacks.

There have been three defeats in addition to 1905, 1935 and 1953 victories for Wales.

The famous 23-11 win by the Barbarians over New Zealand in 1973 was at Cardiff Arms Park and their dream of winning the 2007 World Cup ended at the Millennium Stadium when they were beaten 20-18 by France in the quarter final. And in 1999 South Africa beat the All Blacks 22-18 in the World Cup third place play off - again at the Millennium Stadium.

  91. It isn't always one-sided

There have been some close calls over the years - notably in 1978 and 2004 when the All Blacks won by a point. In '79 the infamous dive by Andy Haden and Frank Oliver is what's remembered from a game the All Blacks won 13-12 with Stu Wilson scoring the only try of the match. In 2004 another legendary wing - Joe Rokocoko - produced a moment of magic to break Welsh hearts in a 25-26 defeat.

  93. Okay, the depressing stuff

In 12 matches this millennium, Wales have conceded an average of 37.6 points per game to the All Blacks and have lost those Tests by an average margin of 23.5 points.

In all matches, stretching back to 1905, Wales have scored 291 points against the All Blacks in 29 matches (average of 10 points per match) and conceded 882 (average of 30 per match). The Welsh have scored just 25 tries in those 25 games, compared with 111 for New Zealand.

  94. Post update

    Gareth Roberts

BBC Sport Wales at the Millennium Stadium

Amid all the talk of Richie McCaw's 100th cap as New Zealand captain, a few notable Welsh marks are also on the cards today in Cardiff.

McCaw's open-side opponent Sam Warburton makes his 50th Wales appearance, as will lock Luke Charteris if he comes off the bench.

Keeping Charteris company is veteran scrum-half Mike Phillips, who will win his 95th Wales cap if he comes on - taking the Racing Metro player to 100 Test caps when adding in his five British and Irish Lions Test appearances, three in South Africa in 2009 and two more against Australia in 2013.

Wales wing Alex Cuthbert will make his 30th Wales appearance and number eight Taulupe Faletau his 40th.

  95. Landmark

Richie McCaw cements his place as one of the true greats in the history of rugby union when he leads the All Blacks for the 100th time in a Test match today. And what a record - 87 wins, two draws and just 10 defeats. Little wonder dad Don and mum Margaret look so proud of their son.

For the Welsh it was the usual story as Australia staged a late comeback to win 33-28 in the first game of the November Test series, and Warren Gatland's team were far from convincing as they beat Fiji 17-13 last Saturday with the visitors down to 14 men for more than 20 minutes in the second half.

The All Blacks have been their usual efficient selves without pulling up any trees - seeing off England 24-21 in Twickenham and claiming a 24-16 win over the Scots.
