"You can never dismiss it (the poor record against Australia).

"More trepidation than expectation from England's support against a team who have only lost twice in 46 matches - but wasn't it the same two years ago, when England shocked us all?"

"There's been the usual hype in Wales ahead of the latest attempt by Warren Gatland's men to improve their dismal record against southern hemisphere teams.

"But a dip in ticket sales means a giant Welsh flag covers the seats at one end of the ground with only ground 55,000 tickets sold by lunchtime on Friday at the 74,500-capacity venue in Wales' capital."

That poor record against Australia is something that exercises Wales captain Sam Warburton.

"Every time it seems we have the gameplan, the belief, the attitude and the effort - only for a small mistake in the 79th minute to cost us.

"Our players know how to see out games: they do it for their clubs all the time. But in the last five minutes of an international match you are absolutely spent. It's our decision-making under extreme fatigue that has let us down."

Wales fans will be pleased to know they've been training three times a day in an attempt to eliminate this late weakness.

You have to be a pretty special sportsperson to be known just by a few letters and the odd number.

CR7 or KP perhaps. Give KJT a few years.

SBW or Sonny Bill Williams is right up there. The code-crossing 29-year-old is fresh back from a spell in league and, after a successful run-out against the United States, is straight into the starting XV of the most successful team on earth.

Opposite him will by another former league man in Kyle Eastmond. Eastmond is giving up eight inches in height and 27kgs in weight to the Kiwi, but has the sort of skittish pace that might unsettle Wiliams as he gets his 15-man bearings.

It's not that Wales haven't been competitive in their nine successive defeats by Australia - all bar the first have come by fewer than 10 points and six have been by less than a converted try.

Wales' problem has been getting over the line (as former Wales winger Ieuan Evans has just said on BBC One).

Since Warren Gatland took charge Wales have beaten one of the three southern hemisphere giants on just one occasion, the 21-18 win over Australia in 2008.
