Argentina are not doing themselves any favours here. Clean ball in midfield and they look like they have the Scots going back. But Facundo Isa has come in the side in his attempt to accelerate the ball back to the scrum-half.

Penalty Scotland and this is just about pot-able for Greig Laidlaw.

    Andy Burke
    BBC Scotland at Murrayfield

"Murrayfield may only be two-thirds full but the place is rocking at the moment. Three tries and the promise of more has the Scottish crowd on the edge of their seats. Vern Cotter's new Scotland being very well received up to this point."

Tom Dickson:, external Erm, 3 tries in 25 minutes. Am I dreaming?

    Do not adjust your set.

Former Scotland scrum-half on BBC Two

"Vern Cotter's given them the licence to play and that's exactly what Maitland did there.

"Great drive and upper body strength to force a turn over and quick thinking from Greg Laidlaw.

"Then a great pass right into Maitland's path to run over for the try."

Sean:, external Boks their own worst enemy right now. Tryline fever?

  6. CONVERSIONpublished at 18:04 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2014

Greig Laidlaw has been neat and tidy off the tee and his side are making hay during Juan Imhoff's sin bin. I think the Argentine would have been better letting Tommy Seymour run past him, even if it came at the cost of seven points.

That is what was promised in the Vern Cotter brochure. Greig Laidlaw has licence to tap and go as Wayne Barnes awards a penalty deep in Scotland's half. The scrum-half is off, slaloming between retreating defenders, and a half-break becomes a full one. He slings the pass wide to the left wing where Sean Maitland gathers and presses the gas to beat the tattered cover.

  8. CONVERSIONpublished at 18:00 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2014

Greig Laidlaw swings his right peg and Scotland push out to four points.

  9. Postpublished at 17:59 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2014

Huge scrummage from the South Africa pack wins a penalty and they kick to the corner. Good position for the Boks this, but Ireland throw themselves at the resulting rolling maul and win the turnover.

"What a start to the game for the Gray brothers.

"It was almost Richie Gray-esque that try from Jonny there.

    "Great try."

Whatever your big brother does you tend to copy. Jonny Gray lives up to the template, slithering past his man and over to put Scotland ahead for the first time in the match.

  12. SIN-BINpublished at 17:57 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2014

Scotland secure a turnover of their own but a promising attack is brought to an end as Tommy Seymour's attempt to chase his own kick is halted by a blatant body check from Juan Imhoff.

He will have ten minutes in the bin to consider what he has done.

  13. PENALTY (Sexton)published at 17:57 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2014

But anything Willie Le Roux can do, Ireland full-back Rob Kearney can do too.

It is his break through the Boks' midfield that sets up the position for Jonathan Sexton to take the lead out to 6-0 as the visitors infringe.

  14. Postpublished at 17:56 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2014

In an age of gym-honed monsters, 17-stone centres and 6ft 5in full-backs, South Africa 15 Willie Le Roux is a throw-back to the black and white era.

He weighs about 13 stone wet through but he is having another superb match and sparks a threatening attack with a soaring catch followed by a weaving 40m run that takes him past about five defenders.

  15. Postpublished at 17:55 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2014

Scotland are up to within five metres but Greig Laidlaw is too quick for his own support. Argentine strip the ball and turn the tables with a break upfield of their own.

  16. Postpublished at 17:54 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2014

    Andy Nicol
Former Scotland scrum-half on BBC Two

"Referee Wayne Barnes is getting frustrated as the front rows are not implementing what he told them before kick-off.

    "Penalties will come."

  17. Postpublished at 17:54 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2014

There is some jiggery-pokery going on between the two front row. Wayne Barnes reads the riot act to the big lads as he resets another scrum. Nope. He has had enough. Free-kick Scotland and they tap and go from 25 metres out.

  18. REPLACEMENTpublished at 17:52 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2014

Argentina are forced into a back row reshuffle as flanker Rodrigo Baez limps out of the fray and Facundo Isa comes on to make his debut as his replacement.

  19. MISSED PENALTY (Pollard)published at 17:51 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2014

After the big build-up I gave him, Handre Pollard has just hoicked his first shot at goal badly wide.

I hear what you are saying Dennis. Give it a couple of years though, the fashion wheel will turn and they will be back out in a retro style one.
