Wasn't that just brilliant from Scotland? The backs joined in...Matt Scott was there. There was tremendous control by John Hardie, everyone was working very hard for one another."

Scotland 23-23 Samoa (Hardie, con. Laidlaw)

Nothing fancy there. Front-jumper ball from Scotland as they throw into a line-out five metres out from the Samoa line.

From there they chug infield with a driving maul and John Hardie burrows over at the back of the mess of limbs.

Greig Laidlaw slots the conversion to take us back to even-stevens.

Scotland have brought this on themselves. Fortunately a couple of conversions have gone to the side that would have been added to Samoa's total. Scotland have just got to keep working very hard."

    Scotland 16-20 Samoa

Ryan Wilson is a lucky fellow.

He kicked out in anger after being held. Fortunately for him his boot skimmed across the nose of his opponent and landed on his shoulder.

The yellow card he receives would have been red had he landed his boot a few centimetres the other way.

  8. Scotland 16-20 Samoapublished at 26 mins

There could be trouble ahead for Ryan Wilson.

The Scotland flanker has been caught on camera, stamping his studs down onto the shoulder of a Samoan tackler who would not release his leg.

Play stopped. Discussions ongoing among the officials.

Scotland are losing all the physical battles. What is the point of kicking the re-start into the 22? It's giving Samoa a free run. From a Scottish perspective they have got to stem this white tide of Samoa."

Samoa's discipline - which has been non-existent at times in this tournament - might have thrown Scotland a lifeline in this opening half hour.

Greig Laidlaw cuts the gap as Samoa get over-eager in defence once again.

    Scotland 13-20 Samoa (Lee-Lo)

Samoa are playing rugby with the handbrake off and a brick on the acclerator.

Dicey offloads, mis-passes, massive sidesteps. Everything is sticking for the Pacific Islanders.

When the ball does go to ground it travels backwards and Tim Nanai-Wiliams controls with his feet.

The scrambled Scots' defence never gets itself back together and Reynold Lee-Lo barges past Stuart Hogg and into the corner.

    Missed conversion.

  19. Penaltypublished at 18 mins

    Scotland 13-15 Samoa (Laidlaw)

David Denton spills forward as Scotland decide to move the ball from the back of the maul.

Could be costly. But about half the Samoa team were in front of the back foot.

Up goes the referee's arm and from bang in front over the sticks goes the ball from Greig Laidlaw's boot.
