A scrum at the start of this second period then, while William Welch is temporarily replaced because of a nasty-looking gash above his right eye. We've only had 69 seconds and already Kingston Park is looking a warzone.

  2. Kick-offpublished at 41 mins

    Newcastle 6-7 Worcester

A puff on the whistle of referee Wayne Barnes gets us up and running, via the boot of Tom Heathcote.

The try-scorer Dewald Potgieter, by the way, has been replaced at half-time. You can only assume because of injury.

The two sets of players are back out in Newcastle, so it looks as though we're just about ready to get back under way.

A long way to go here yet, of course. So which way do you see this one going? Can Andy Goode inspire his side to a second-half comeback against his former side?

  6. HT: Newcastle 6-7 Worcesterpublished at 20:34

Worcester Warriors are without an away Premiership win since March 2014 - when they managed to squeeze out a memorable victory at Kingston Park on their way to relegation back to the Championship.

But, while that success was ultimately in vain, victory this time around could well make a huge difference to their hopes of survival.

In fact, it'd pull them nine points clear of bottom club London Irish and two points above the Falcons.

  7. Half-timepublished at 40 mins

    Newcastle 6-7 Worcester

Well, well, well, who'd have thunked it? Dewald Potgieter's try right on the stroke of half-time has given Worcester Warriors the slenderest of leads over Newcastle Falcons.

  8. try

Try (Potgieter, con Heathcote)published at 39 mins

    Newcastle 6-7 Worcester

And the sky blues have their try!

The rolling maul is in fine working order and South African Dewald Potgieter forces his way over the line right in behind it. A textbook set-piece.

Tom Heatcote converts and Worcester are ahead for the first time.

  9. Newcastle 6-0 Worcesterpublished at 38 mins

Worcester, to their credit, have their tails up all of a sudden here and Chris Pennell's up-and-under has Alex Tait scampering back and he is penalised for not releasing.

    The Warriors head for touch...

  10. Missed penalty (Heathcote)published at 36 mins

    Newcastle 6-0 Worcester

But Tom Heathcote's kick drifts wide of the posts and Worcester's first opportunity for points is squandered.

  11. Newcastle 6-0 Worcesterpublished at 34 mins

Worcester have an advantage here, and they're just about up to Newcastle's 22. What can they make of this?

Eventually the move breaks down, so it looks as though Tom Heathcote will ask for the tee himself.

  12. Newcastle 6-0 Worcesterpublished at 33 mins

Ryan Mills, via Tom Heathcote's pass, breaks the Newcastle defensive line on halfway but the Falcons get back to him and then turn it over - more fabulous work at the ruck.

Micky Young's box kick is long and the away side will try to run it all over again.

  13. Penalty (Goode)published at 31 mins

    Newcastle 6-0 Worcester

Wowzers, Andy Goode has got away with one there.

His kick from not the trickiest of angles looks to be drifting wide but just catches the inside of the left-hand upright, bounces onto the right-hand upright and then just about trickles over the line.

The big bear has a big, big smile across his face - and so he should.

  14. Newcastle 3-0 Worcesterpublished at 30 mins

Now then, this is more like it. Newcastle secure the line-out and are into a fifth phase, inside Worcester's 22.

But another infringement at the breakdown from Warriors will leave Andy Goode calling for the tee for a third time.

    Negative or just practical?

  15. Newcastle 3-0 Worcesterpublished at 29 mins

And now Newcastle have won themselves a penalty at the breakdown, hustling on the floor and earning the turnover.

    Andy Goode heads to touch.

  16. Newcastle 3-0 Worcesterpublished at 27 mins

Another error, another knock-on, another scrum - albeit after a brief drinks break.

In all honesty, it's not been a great watch so far, has this. Both teams are chucking it around more than their fair share, but the quality is lacking, which is perhaps typical of two teams in the bottom three.

  17. Newcastle 3-0 Worcesterpublished at 25 mins

Defence is definitely coming out on top against attack here, with the two full-backs now exchanging a couple of long kicks in an attempt to earn some crucial territory.

Now Worcester have the ball in hand, and are with it up to halfway.

  18. Missed penalty (Goode)published at 23 mins

But the blustery wind is not making it an easy night for the kickers and, despite having landed his first attempt, Andy Goode's latest three-point effort drifts wide of the near upright.

    The score remains 3-0.

  19. Newcastle 3-0 Worcesterpublished at 21 mins

Plenty of good intention from both sides, but just a bit of final execution missing.

Again Worcester are on the attack, with Newcastle's defensive line caught a little narrow having been drawn in for the initial hits, but then another knock-on soon ends that.

Now Falcons are streaming forward, but they're illegally halted by a high tackle on Simon Hammersley, so Andy Goode calls for the tee again...

  20. Newcastle 3-0 Worcesterpublished at 17 mins

Worcester almost find the perfect response to going behind, mind you.

After a rolling maul earns some precious yards, Francois Hougaard sends a lovely little kick through to turn Newcastle's defence - but a sky blue shirt is unable to gather and the hosts clear their lines.
