  1. Gloucester 31-24 Leicesterpublished at 21:12 British Summer Time 2 September 2016

Leicester's momentum is somewhat halted by a nasty-looking injury for Dom Barrow, who is down on the ground receiving some treatment after a big knock. He'll need his head injury checking over.

  2. Penalty (Burns)published at 21:09 British Summer Time 2 September 2016

    Gloucester 31-24 Leicester

Well, well, well. Gloucester's lead is evaporating at Kingsholm and suddenly the home crowd are getting nervous!

The penalty is conceded at the scrum and Freddie Burns opts to kick. He makes no mistake.

  3. try

Try (Harrison, con Burns)published at 57 mins

    Gloucester 31-21 Leicester

Eventually, inevitably, Leicester's pressure tells. Sam Harrison is credited with getting the ball over the line amid a heaving tussle of Tigers bodies, driving forward, again and again.

With a man advantage, things are suddenly looking up for Leicester, as Freddie Burns makes the conversion to move them within 10 points of the hosts.

  4. Kick-offpublished at 21:05 British Summer Time 2 September 2016

    Newcastle 10-3 Sale

The second-half gets under way at Kingston Park.

Hopefully we'll see a bit more quality than before the break. Although we're being spoilt at Kingsholm aren't we?

  5. Sin-bin (Kvesic)published at 56 mins

    Gloucester 31-14 Leicester

Gloucester are eventually penalised with a yellow card by referee Wayne Barnes and Matt Kvesic goes in to the sin bin for unfairly stopping a maul. There were too many consecutive penalties conceded there, as Leicester pile on the pressure.

  6. Gloucester 31-14 Leicesterpublished at 55 mins

Leicester are having a good spell here. They have played a series of advantages, deep in Gloucester territory, and have won consecutive penalties. Gloucester are facing a stern defensive test now.

  7. No trypublished at 52 mins

    Gloucester 31-14 Leicteser

The home crowd's loud cheer greets the TMO's decision: No try! Tigers' Adam Thompstone is denied. He was offside, just inches in front of Freddie Burns as Burns chipped the ball long for him to chase.

The crowd were expecting a decision on whether or not Thompstone grounded the ball, or perhaps was even held back by Henry Purdy, as those two chased the kick, but because he was offside, none of that matters in the end. Gloucester still hold a big lead.

  8. Try review (Leicester)published at 49 mins

    Gloucester 31-14 Leicester

Leicester may well have a second try in the space of a few minutes here or, if not, then at least a penalty try. We are going to the TMO.... Stand by.

  9. try

Try (Pietersen, con Burns)published at 47 mins

    Gloucester 31-14 Leicester

Tigers debutant JP Pietersen - a 2007 World Cup winner with South Africa - has a try in his first Premiership match for Leicester, converting from 10 metres out down the left flank to give the visitors some hope.

Huge credit goes to Luke Hamilton for an outstanding offload under pressure. Freddie Burns kicks the extra couple of points.

  10. Half-timepublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 2 September 2016

    Newcastle 10-3 Sale

The half-time whistle goes at Kingston Park.

Not the most fluent 40 minutes of rugby, but Newcastle will take it.

Sinoti Sinoti's converted try has given the hosts a seven-point lead at the break.

  11. try

Try (Purdy, con Laidlaw)published at 44 mins

    Gloucester 31-7 Leicester

Wow! It's another try for Gloucester, almost straight after the restart!

Henry Purdy races away down the left, collecting the pass from half-time replacement James Hook,  moments after Lachlan McCaffrey had made a strong break for Tigers.

The hosts are in opening-night dreamland here! Greig Laidlaw converts easily, once again.

  12. Kick-offpublished at 41 mins

    Gloucester 24-7 Leicester

  13. Replacement (Gloucester)published at 20:46 British Summer Time 2 September 2016

    HT: Gloucester 24-7 Leicester

Billy Burns' ribs are sufficiently injured that he unfortunately can't continue in the second half so James Hook is on to replace him at the break.

  14. HT: Gloucester 24-7 Leicesterpublished at 20:41 British Summer Time 2 September 2016

It is worth remembering that Leicester claimed narrow victories in both league meetings between these two sides last season.

They are not out of this one yet, not by a long way, but they'll need to clean up the mistakes and make some more ground going forward after the break or Gloucester - who finished down in eighth last season - are set for a morale-boosting victory.

  15. try

Try (Sinoti, con Delany)published at 20:39 British Summer Time 2 September 2016

    Newcastle 10-3 Sale

A try! Some action at Kingston Park! Big Samoan winger Sinoti Sinoti bundles over in the corner for Newcastle from Juan Pablo Socino's offload.

The home crowd goes wild before Mike Delany slots over the conversion.

  16. Gritty battle at Kingston Parkpublished at 20:36 British Summer Time 2 September 2016

    Newcastle 3-3 Sale

Newcastle director of rugby Dean Richards said it was going to be a bruising encounter and he's not wrong.

Neither side can get a grip on the game as it goes past the half-hour mark.

Little sign of the excitement we've seen at Kingsholm - still plenty of time for things to improve though!

It says it all when this is the highlight...

  17. Half-timepublished at 20:30 British Summer Time 2 September 2016

    Gloucester 24-7 Leicester

The players jog off for the break at the end of a half that Gloucester debutant Matt Scott won't be forgetting in a hurry. The hosts are deservedly 17 points ahead.

  18. Gloucester 24-7 Leicesterpublished at 39 mins

The home crowd are delighted. Their team are turning the ball over, they're stealing at line-outs, they're moving the ball with pace, they're ending this half on top.

It's a promising opening night for David Humphreys' side, so far.

Peter Hague: We might miss his creativity but I don't think Sale will miss Cips percentage off the tee

Nick Hughes: given how many times Cips missed pens or conversions, Sale won't miss him too much, it's his link play & vision they'll miss most

  20. MacGinty levels things uppublished at 20:23 British Summer Time 2 September 2016

    Newcastle 3-3 Sale

Newcastle have given away three penalties in the opening 20 minutes of the game and United States international AJ MacGinty makes no mistake this time.

The 26-year-old slots it through the posts for Sale and it's a level game.

Not a lot of quality so far.
