  1. Penalty (Slade)published at 51 mins

    Wasps 8-20 Exeter

As simple as they come for Slade but Exeter's hard work pays off. A good start to the second period from Rob Baxter's men.

  2. Wasps 8-17 Exeterpublished at 51 mins

Exeter are five metres short and they'll be hard to stop from this range.

The referee signals for a penalty in front of the posts and back we come for the kick.

It'll be a shot at the posts this time.

  3. Wasps 8-17 Exeterpublished at 49 mins

Geoff Parling comes off the bench for Exeter to replace Mitch Lees in the second row. And he's had an effect straight away.

Parling is in there to disrupt, it's untidy and scrappy ball from the lineout and Wasps are right back on their try line.

    Exeter have the field position.

  4. Wasps 8-17 Exeterpublished at 46 mins

Chiefs are in their eighth phase, they've had all the possession since the interval.

But after all that hard work, it comes to nothing as Chudley spills the ball forward.

We take a pause for the Wasps scrum, and it's a dominant one. They get the penalty and it's a big kick from Cipriani.

  5. Wasps 8-17 Exeterpublished at 43 mins

Exeter create a good overlap on the right wing but the pass is all wrong and Ollie Woodburn can't collect.

Wasps clear their lines, Woodburn collects and turns on the...burners.

  6. Wasps 8-17 Exeterpublished at 42 mins

And Exeter have the first penalty of the second period. Nathan Hughes caught holding onto the ball in the ruck and Chiefs are up to the 22 metre line.

    HT: Wasps 8-17 Exeter

Wasps may still be awaiting the arrival of Willie Le Roux and superstar Kurtley Beale may be watching from the stands, but there have been plenty of flashes of brilliance so far.

Jimmy Gopperth, moved to number 12, has put his hand up for try of the weekend.

All in all, it has been an excellent 40 minutes. Chiefs are in a good position, but they've got 40 minutes of work still to do.

  10. Half-timepublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 4 September 2016

    Wasps 8-17 Exeter

A first-half with a bit of everything really. Three tries, two for the Chiefs and an outstanding individual effort from Jimmy Gopperth.

Time for a cuppa but don't miss the second 40. All to play for.

  11. Wasps 8-17 Exeterpublished at 39 mins

Wasps are looking for an instant reply, and that's better from Dai Young's side. Rob Miller attacks the line and puts in a kick for Wade to finish.

It doesn't quite come off but Wasps have the ball back as Thompson races through, but the ball went forward.

  12. Good rugby from both sidespublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 4 September 2016

    Wasps 8-17 Exeter

    John Lockyer
Former Exeter Chiefs captain on BBC Radio Devon

That's a real team try! After a very good Wasps try, Chiefs have just shown that their backs can play rugby as well. This half has been full of good rugby, from both sides.

  13. try

Try (Chudley, con Slade)published at 35 mins

The tempo has definitely picked up now.

Josh Basset with the mistake in midfield and Exeter are straight back on the scoreboard through scrum-half Will Chudley.

Sam Hill with the break down the wing and he passes back inside as Chudley eases over the whitewash. Exeter's lead is back out to nine.

Try (Gopperth, missed con Gopperth)published at 32 mins

    Wasps 8-10 Exeter

We've had ping-pong and now we've got some silky football on show.

Exeter get a foot in and punt the ball away to shut down the Wasps attack.

But the home side weren't going away. Dan Robson makes the initial surge and Jimmy Gopperth shows superb skills to beat the Exeter defenders on the outside. Great finish.

  15. Wasps 3-10 Exeterpublished at 29 mins

So it's back to the rugby.

Wasps with a scrum 10 metres from the Exeter line, but the referee isn't happy.

Boos ring out around the Ricoh but we've got problems on both sides here. So we'll go again.

  16. Wasps 3-10 Exeterpublished at 29 mins

Wasps finally find another gear and they burst down the left wing before knocking on.

But we've come back for a look at an earlier incident.

TMO adjudges that the contact made by Devoto with Cipriani's head on the floor is a rugby incident. Nothing to see here.

  17. Wasps 3-10 Exeterpublished at 26 mins

The pace has slowed here as the game descends into ping-pong.

Exeter are doing a good job of shutting down Danny Cipriani so far.

  18. Wasps 3-10 Exeterpublished at 23 mins

The referee just reminds the players that there have already been a couple of penalties in this area...Wasps need to be careful here

But they successfully defend the line-out and Exeter have to pass the ball out wide.

They're up to the five metre line as Ollie Woodburn dances through the tackles but just flings the ball forward.

A little glimpse of what's to come there.

  19. Wasps 3-10 Exeterpublished at 21 mins

Chiefs are on the hunt as Will Chudley clips through a lovely ball but we'll come back for the penalty.

The referee has blown for an early tackle and Slade goes for the same corner once again.

Exeter are in two-score territory here.

Wasps with a strong scrum, they go blind and it's sloppy but with the penalty coming they could afford to chuck it about.

Jimmy Gopperth lines up his first attempt of the afternoon and it flies though the uprights.
