Well it wasn't pretty, but Exeter are up to fourth ahead of the rest of the weekend's games.

Meanwhile, Sale director of rugby Steve Diamond will not be happy with how that game went one bit. Back to the drawing board come Monday.

Until tomorrow, it's goodbye from us.

    Saturday's Premiership action

Right, what's to come this weekend?

I know England are playing Australia but there are also three Premiership games tomorrow, including a heavyweight tussle between leaders Saracens and first-placed Bath.

That's the lunchtime offering, while there's a derby between Gloucester and Bristol to watch out for and Leicester host Northampton.

We'll be across it all, as per usual.

Exeter's Don Armand told BT Sport: "It was quite a hard-fought win. It's a top effort by the whole team.

"I think the bonus point was on everybody's mind - they responded well, dug in and kept us out."

Ex-Sale player and Premiership referee Nigel Yates on BBC Radio Manchester:

"This has been a dismal, dismal evening - as bad as we've seen all season."

It was a slog in the second half, but Exeter have three straight wins but no bonus point this time.

Sale just looked very poor all night. There's not a lot more I can say.

    Sale 3-21 Exeter

    That's probably it for Sale.

They win their own line-out five metres from the Cheifs line, but after working the ball nicely, they knock on during contact and give Exeter the scrum.

    Sale 3-21 Exeter

First flowing move of the game for Sale as they move from left to right in the Exeter half, but a loose pass by Bryn Evans to Tom Arscott slows the momentum.

But Exeter's Michele Campagnaro will be in the sinbin for the rest of the match after an infringement at the breakdown.

No more kicking from Sale, but they cannot get out of their own half.

No breaks through the Chiefs defence means no gains. This is not where they want to be right now - obviously.

Exeter work the ball nicely in the Sale 22, but Dave Ewers' loose pass gives the hosts possession once more. It's been a somewhat scrappy affair this one...

Exeter's Michele Campagnaro comes onto the field in place of Sam Hill, who trudges off with a bloodstained shirt.

Campagnaro is making his first Premiership appearance of the season and has shown what he can do for Italy, but is yet to sparkle in a Chiefs shirt.

For the first time in the match, Sale get into Exeter's 22.

Peter Stringer, somehow continuing, is the focal point and his pass sets in motion a move out to Josh Charnley on the wing, but the Sale man is closed down by about three defenders very quickly and pulled out of play.

Stringer carries on for Sale. I have no idea how.

Fair play to the guy that is the second oldest back to play in the Premiership.

Peter Stringer is lying on the turf looking in real pain after a collision with Olly Woodburn.

The physio is tending to his knee and the replacement does not in a good way. Having come on for Mike Phillips around 10 minutes ago, this will not help Steve Diamond's gameplan.

Ex-Sale player and Premiership referee Nigel Yates on BBC Radio Manchester:

"I don't think they've (Sale) been in the 22 have they?

"They've played a little bit of rugby but it's all been in their own 22, and I don't understand why they want to play their rugby in that part of the field."

Sale are pinned in their own half by Exeter. We've just seen a graphic showing where the play has been this half.

Pretty much the whole period has been played in the Sale half, but they finally get the ball into the opposition territory, forcing the Chiefs into a line-out.

Nearly half way through the second period and still no more points added onto the board.

It has to be said, for all the tough tackling both sides are doing, there has been little in the way of action outside the midfield.

Exeter currently retain possession just inside Sale's half.

Sale are no longer contesting the Exeter line-outs, they know a drive is coming.

It works as Sharks win the turnover, get it out wide but Josh Charnley cannot reach a grubber kick and the Chiefs clear it out of play.

Sale's Ben Curry is hobbling badly and cannot continue.

David Seymour comes on in place of him, while Halani Aulika comes on at tighthead.

Sale finally show something in this second half after winning a scrum on the halfway line, but referee Wayne Barnes has to call a halt to play as Ben Curry is down receiving treatment near where the ball is.
