With wing Isa Nacewa stranded in the sin bin, David Strettle is up against flanker Dan Leavy on the left wing.

A touch of gas and hint of swerve and he is cantering past him.

Full-back Joey Carbery gets across, but he is at full bore and Strettle spots him and steps him to plunge over.

The only silver lining for the Pro12 leaders is that Morgan Parra misses the conversion.

    Leinster's line-out is a crime scene.

Hooker Richardt Strauss sees his throw nicked by Damien Chouly in the middle of the line, before one to the back clears Devin Toner and is swept up by a Frenchman.

Clermont deep inside the Leinster 22m and sniffing blood in the water...

    Clermont 10-0 Leinster

Leinster have been battered by a hurricane in the first few minutes.

But might Clermont blow themselves out if the visitors can weather the storm? Top 14 sides tend to be big on physicality, less strong on stamina.

Morgan Parra steps up and slots to crank the decibels a little higher.

    Clermont 7-0 Leinster

    Leinster's captain is off for a 10-minute sit-down.

His sly pull on David Strettle as the former England wing ran in support of Scott Spedding is spotted on the video review and the referee Nigel Owens dispatches him with a yellow card.

It is a kickable penalty as well....

    Clermont 7-0 Leinster

Clermont with the wind in their sails and the crowd at their backs.

Fritz Lee and Damien Chouly combine to rob Joey Carbery on the floor and Scott Spedding almost puts in a grubber behind the Leinster defence.

Hang on, Nigel Owens has spotted something...

Garry Ringrose coughs up possession, Clermont whip the ball wide and David Strettle with a lovely little piece of slipper, deftly chipping over the top of Leinster captain Isa Nacewa for flanker Peceli Yato to streak onto the ball and score.

Nigel Owens is happy with the grounding and Morgan Parra adds the extra.

    Clermont 0-0 Leinster

Clermont's defensive line is coming at the Leinster backs as fast and impenetrable as expert level on The Wall.

They were lingering longest in the dressing rooms as they were sent out with a rocket up the derriere.

  12. Kick-offpublished at 1 min

    Clermont 0-0 Leinster

With Nigel Owens on whistle duty, we are in safe hands.

Johnny Sexton slaps the restart long, an awkward bounce as the Clermont forwards fail to claim it and Morgan Parra is taken out in the air as he leaps to catch it on the half-volley.

A nervous start for Clermont and a missed opportunity for Leinster to apply early pressure and silence the crowd.

Stade Gerland is rocking to the rafters.

Plenty of Clermont fans - I always imagine then as a foppish-fringe-and-linen-suited brigade - have made the short trip to Lyon.

But there is the countering chant of Leinster, Leinster from the Irish contingent.

The sun is blazing. It is a heck of a day for running rugby and two fine exponents of it coming out of the tunnel.

There are mouth-watering contest all across the backline today.

Camille Lopez v Johnny Sexton at 10.

Remi Lamerat v Robbie Henshaw at 12.

And perhaps most intriguing of all, the purring Rolls Royce of Aurelien Rougerie against young tyro Garry Ringrose at 13.

Clermont are aiming to win the trophy for the first time after losing to Toulon in the 2013 and 2015 finals.

The French hosts are without backs Wesley Fofana, Noa Nakaitaci and Isaia Toeava for Sunday's game.

Englishmen Nick Abendanon and David Strettle start behind the scrum however.

Leinster flanker Sean O'Brien will miss the European Champions Cup semi-final against Clermont in France because of a tight hamstring.

The absence of O'Brien, who was named in the Lions squad this week, is one of two changes from the side that beat Wasps in the quarter-final.

Rhys Ruddock replaces O'Brien in the back row while Fergus McFadden comes in for Ross Byrne on the wing.

Leinster have won the tournament three times, the last success coming in 2012.

Saracens set the standard yesterday as they vanquished Munster in no-nonsense style.

But will it be three-time champions Leinsters or perennial bridesmaid Clermont Auvergne who will join them in the final on 13 May in Edinburgh?
