Well it wasn't to be for Scotland today as Fiji spoiled their hopes of a perfect summer of three tour wins from three.

The Fijians played some wonderful stuff and a few of Scotland's fringe players found the going tough in Suva. The knowledge that many of his big guns were missing or rested for this match may be small comfort for Gregor Townsed, though he'll undoubtedly be frustrated with many aspects of the Scottish performance.

Overall the tour has been positive for Scotland, not least because of that famous win over Australia in Sydney last weekend off the back of victory over Italy in Singapore.

Fair play to Fiji. There are not many sides in world rugby you'd rather watch when they're at it and they were certainly on song today.

Scotland try to throw it wide in a desperate attempt to conjure an unlikely winner but Tim Visser is bundled into touch and that is that.

You have to say Fiji deserve the win. The had the upper hand for large spells in the game, scored two incredible tries and did not let Scotland get to anything like the level they displayed in victory over Australia in Sydney last weekend.

Gregor Townsend will be appalled at the stat which shows Scotland missed 30 tackles during the match. I'd be surprised if any nation has ever won a Test match missing so many tackles.

This is breathless stuff now.

The Scots demolish the Fijian scrum and force a penalty which Ali Price takes quickly. He makes some good yardage but his pass is to Fijian hands.

Benito Masilevu is in no mood to merely run down the clock and embarks on a glorious run which sees him evade several tackles before losing the ball forward.

Scrum Scotland. Time is up and this is the last play. Time for a miracle.....

Scotland have a line-out on their own 22m and desperately need to get down the other end of the pitch.

Unfortunately the referee rules Fraser Brown's throw is not straight and it is a scrum to Fiji.

They should be able to just run down the clock from here.....

The hookers are doing the try-scoring business today.

Scotland force Fiji onto the back foot and the home side concede several penalties in quick succession. They kick to the corner and once again the driving line-out maul pays dividends as the pack drives over the line for Fraser Brown to ground.

Ruaridh Jackson misses the touchline conversion which could yet prove important.

The referee is informed the match clock has been a few minutes out so Scotland have a bit more time to find a late winning try.

It's just not happening for Scotland.

Ali Price has tried to inject some greater urgency to the play since replacing Henry Pyrgos. He spreads the ball to Greig Tonks who in turn feeds Damien Hoyland but as he looks to put the ball through the hands he drops it forward.

Just over five minutes for the Scots to save themselves.

The Scots will be having nightmares about Josua Tuisova tonight.

The big winger looks to be in trouble as he turns to collect the ball on the left wing in his own 22 but he crashes through two or three tackles and suddenly Scotland are on the back foot.

The Fijians keep the ball alive and eventually force a penalty which Ben Volavola kicks to stretch the advantage to 10 points.

The home side are brimming with confidence and the home crowd are in fine fettle. If Scotland get out of this jam they will be doing very, very well.

If Scotland are going to get through this then they're going to have to overcome their own desperate shortcomings. Guys missing tackles all over the pitch, the pack getting bullied physically, colossal error mountain.

Fiji have a small but vocal crowd driving them on here. Every time Nakarawa goes near the ball they get on their feet as one. Not a surprise. The big man is electrifying.

Scotland once again find themselves in a deep hole.

Leone Nakarawa has looked to spark Fiji at every opportunity and he manages it here. He brushes off a couple of tackles, fends off his old Glasgow second row partner Jonny Gray and offloads for Henry Seniloli to run in under the posts.

The final pass looked borderline forward to me but there is no TMO and the referee is happy with it so the try is given - and converted - and Fiji's tails are up again.

Terrific passage of play from Scotland that really deserved a try.

The substitutes have really made an impact, with Fraser Brown and Ryan Wilson carrying hard at the Fijian line.

Josh Strauss pops a pass to Nick Grigg cutting a beautiful angle and he is stooped just short.

Eventually the ball is whipped wide to Visser who pops inside for Damien Hoyland but he is bundled into touch.

The referee brings it back for a prior infringement and Jackson pops over the kick to level the match again.

That will infuriate Gregor Townsend.

Having just dragged themselves level the Scots are pinged for blocking runners at the restart.

Ben Volavola makes no mistake from the tee and the home side are back in front.

A huge break for Scotland.

Fiji captain Akapusi Qera picks up from the base of the scrum 5m from his own line. He is clattered by Hamish Watson and when the ball slips from his hands Ruaridh Jackson is on it in a flash to gather and dive over.

Jackson converts and we are all square.

Scotland have a line-out near the Fiji line. Again they look for the for the rolling maul but the lose control of the ball.

They manage to regain possession and Henry Pyrgos looks for a gap around the fringes. He makes a half-break but his offload isn't the best and John Barclay knocks the ball on while trying to gather.

The Scots look tired. It's been a long season and a very demanding tour. They need to find one last big effort from somewhere.

Fraser Brown and Gordon Reid are on to offer some fresh impetus to the front row, while Hamish Watson comes on in the back row.

As they come under more pressure the Scots' penalty count is creeping up.

They are pinged again at the line-out and Ben Volavola knocks over his third penalty of the match to stretch Fiji's lead to seven.

Fiji work through a couple of phases from a scrum near the Scotland line before prop Peni Ravai blasts through a couple of tackles and is hauled down a few feet from the line.

Fiji hammer at the line but the ball squirts loose and John Barclay grabs it and clings to it as if it's a newborn baby.

The Scots really struggling here.
