  • Gregor Townsend completes first Test series as Scotland head coach

  1. Hoyland hammeredpublished at 15 mins

    Fiji 0-0 Scotland

OUCH! Damien Hoyland will be having nightmares about this.

The Edinburgh wing comes in to the line and is fed by Ruaridh Jackson but for some reason skips into the air as he catches the ball. That's all the invitation opposite number Josua Tuisova needs to absolutely annihilate him with a huge hit.

    Looked sore!

  2. Flash of Fiji brilliancepublished at 13 mins

    Fiji 0-0 Scotland

The home side serve notice of what the threat the possess in broken play.

Scotland are on the front foot but are turned over on the Fiji 22m line. The home side immediately attack from deep, keeping the ball alive with a succession of superb offloads.

Patrick Osborne draws two men and passes out the back but the next pass doesn't go to hand and the chance is gone.

  3. Lots of mistakespublished at 03:56 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

    Fiji 0-0 Scotland

BBC Sport Scotland chief sports writer at ANZ Stadium, Suva

Eleven minutes in and this game hasn't even begun to settle into a pattern. Lots of mistakes. Scotland just worked themselves into the Fiji 22 but promptly lost the lineout - the first of Ross Ford's record-breaking 110th cap.

  4. Scrappy openingpublished at 11 mins

    Fiji 0-0 Scotland

Scotland have had a little more of the ball and Tim Visser comes in off his wing to make a few yards close to the Fiji 22m.

Damien Hoyland on the other wing is also getting into the action but wayward passes are undermining the Scots attack at this stage.

  5. Hardie halts Fijipublished at 8 mins

    Fiji 0-0 Scotland

Fijian captain Akapusi Qera comes crashing into midfield and sucks in a couple of tacklers, but John Hardie is on him like a rash once he hits the deck and the flanker forces the referee's hand and wins a penalty for Scotland.

    Classic openside play.

  6. Postpublished at 03:50 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

    Fiji 0-0 Scotland

    Tom English
BBC Sport Scotland chief sports writer at ANZ Stadium, Suva

Fiji on top so far, but Scotland's defence has been strong, forcing spillages in the tackle from Leone Nakarawa and Josua 'The Bus' Tuisova. Small crowd here - 3,000-4,000. Surprising, that.

  7. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Fiji 0-0 Scotland

The first scrum of the match and Fiji work it back for Josua Tuisova to come crashing into the line but he loses the ball forward in contact.

From the next scrum Scotland work it wide to Nick Grigg to crash it up. Peter Horne notices some space in behind and drops a lovely kick into space deep in Fijian territory.

  8. KICK-OFFpublished at 03:47 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

    Fiji 0-0 Scotland

We are under way in Suva. Pictures coming to us on a slight delay so bear with us!

Brass band belting it out in the ANZ Stadium here in Suva. One seated stand, terracing on the far side and grass banks behind both ends. Fiji beat the Italians last weekend and make seven changes from that team. They've 10 French-based players in their starting line-up.

The marquee act is, of course, Leone Nakarawa, the former Glasgow totem. His pal Niko Matawalu isn't in the 23, but he's here today and is cutting about the place in a white wig. Of those guys based in France - Kuni Murimurivalu, the classy full-back, is with La Rochelle, Josua Tuisova, the high-class wing, is with Toulon and Peceli Yato, the openside flanker, is with Clermont.

Yato is a terrific talent. He was one of Clermont's stand-out performers in the Champions Cup final at Murrayfield. He's had quite at time of it. Earlier in the week in Suva he happened upon a hit and run, comforting the victim on the road before the young man later passed away in hospital.

  10. Ford ready to firepublished at 03:38 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

    Fiji v Scotland (03:30)

Scotland's soon-to-be record caps holder limbers up before his big moment.

Our man in Suva Al Lamont tells us that kick-off is delayed by 10 minutes or so.

  11. Fiji are 'world's best offloaders'published at 03:36 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

    Fiji v Scotland (03:30)

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend believes Fiji are "the best in the world in terms of individual line-breaking ability, in terms of offloading".

"A lot of it is around their number five, Leone Nakarawa, who we know very well," said Townsend of a man he coached at Glasgow Warriors.

"You've got to make sure you defend well against them, you've got to make sure you have a line that is uniform and that you get your tackles in. When they get unstructured play and the line isn't uniform, that's when they come alive

"Their set-piece has improved a lot over the last few seasons. They're very well coached and they are playing at home. They had a win against Italy last weekend. Italy tried to slow down the tempo at times but that's not something we are looking to do. We'll try to match the pace they will aim to play at.

"They've got some brilliant players. Patrick Osborne plays for the Highlanders and Josua Tuisova plays very well for Toulon.

"They do produce some of the best backs in the world and I believe the best second row in the world in Leone. And the more we are in Fiji we see the reasons why. There's probably no country in the world where rugby is so important to the culture."

A win over Italy in the suffocating heat of Singapore and a famous victory over the Wallabies in Sydney - all in all it's been a terrific start to life as Scotland head coach for Gregor Townsend.

How would you rate Scotland's performances this summer? Any individual players really shone in your eyes? And how do you see today's match against Fiji panning out?

  16. Nakarawa out to beat old comradespublished at 03:21 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

    Fiji v Scotland (03:30)

One name will jump out from the Fiji line-up more than any other for Scottish fans - Leone Nakarawa.

The flamboyant second row was a huge hit during his time with Glasgow Warriors, his outrageous off-loading game helping the club to the Pro12 title in 2015. He left Scotstoun to join Racing 92 last summer though has been linked with a move away from Paris.

Head coach John McKee has made seven changes from the side that clinched a dramatic 22-19 win over Italy last weekend with an injury-time drop goal from Ben Volavola. He retains his place at fly-half.

Wing Josua Tuisova makes his international debut and Mosese Ducivaki, Sikeli Nabou and John Stewart could also make their Test bows from the bench.

Nakarawa is partnered in the sceond row by Tevita Cavubati, with Akapusi Qera captaining the side from number eight.

Subs: Tuapati Talemaitoga, Joeli Veitayaki, Mosese Ducivaki, Sikeli Nabou, Naulia Dawai, Henry Seniloli, John Stewart, Benito Masilevu.

  18. 'I'm 32. No wait, I'm 33. Who cares?'published at 03:15 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

    Fiji v Scotland (03:30)

The only person in Fiji who believes Ross Ford isn't 33 is Ross Ford. So on Thursday evening he's asked again.

    "Ross, what age, are you?"

    "I'm 32."

    "You're not. You're 33."

"Am I? Ah, OK. It's only a number."

This story cuts to the heart of Ford, a man who just gets on with life without fuss or bother, without getting too high or too low, without concerning himself with incidentals such as his age.

He says that the whole record thing "creeped up on him". He never gave it any thought until people started asking. You talk about his international career span of 13 years and he says he can't remember a whole lot about it. Bits and pieces, yeah. But not much.

Read Tom English's interview with Ross Ford here.

  19. John Barclay column from Suvapublished at 03:10 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

    Fiji v Scotland (03:30)

Our team base is in an oasis of tranquillity. Apart from the snakes. And the giant bats. And the lionfish that sits underneath the rope bridge we walk across every day from the main restaurant in the hotel to the team room, a cabin literally built on the water.

It says online that a sting from a lionfish causes nausea, vomiting, fever, breathing difficulties, convulsions, dizziness, headache, numbness, diarrhoea and sweating - just some of the ailments that befell Scottish rugby fans as they watched the closing minutes of our game against the Wallabies last weekend.

Read John Barclay's column from Suva here.
