England will be quite disappointed to be going in only seven points ahead because they should be further in front.

New Zealand started to look really dangerous there so it looks like England's control is starting to slip away a bit.

New Zealand are not done with this half yet...

Victoria Subritzky-Nafatali dummies and darts from 10 with the clock in the red.

But that is your lot as ref Joy Neville pops her arm up England's way.

    Toka Natua

The prop grounded the ball with a deft backhanded motion after being turned turtle over the line.

That puts the Kiwis right back into the mix.

They might even take a seven-point deficit, given that they have played 10 minutes of the half down a player.

A missed conversion and a missed chance to further cut the debt.

That was a really good passage of play from New Zealand, but Katy Mclean shouldn't have kicked the ball away. They had an overlap, they had numbers, England should have kept it in hand rather than giving a fantastic New Zealand side possession.

New Zealand are starting to make inroads. Prop Aldora Itunu churns through the white wall like an runaway combine harvester.

Is there space for Portia Woodman? Nope, Katy Mclean is across quickly to shut down and snuff out the Kiwi dangerwoman.

But the Black Ferns have a line-out 10 metres out...

Converted try - England 17-5 New Zealandpublished at 30 mins

    Lydia Thompson (con Scarratt)

All England's replacements - warming up behind the dead-ball area - envelop Lydia Thompson as she dives in at the corner.

A great finish from the wing after Rachel Burford had punched the hole, the ball was recycled double-quick and Katy Mclean slung the wide pass to exploit the under-staffed Kiwi defence.

And a pin-point conversion from way-out wide from Emily Scarratt into the bargain.

New Zealand are back on the front foot and asking questions.

But that ball has got away from the mitts of Aroha Savage, her eye caught by the flared nostrils and pawing hooves of the England defence in front of her.

New Zealand have two minutes remaining on Sarah Goss's yellow card.

Sarah Hunter dribbling the ball with the dexterity of Stan Matthews at the back of the scrum.

New Zealand break early and despairingly to try and deny the pushover.

But Joy Neville has had enough of their indiscipline.

She is under the sticks to award the penalty try and the extra two points come automatically when the referee is the scorer nowadays.

It's an aggressive hit on Katy Mclean by Sarah Goss. She goes past the horizontal, I think it's a little bit careless.

Great officiating by Joy Neville - the yellow card is the right decision.

    England 3-5 New Zealand

New Zealand flanker Sarah Goss has sent Katy McLean crashing to the turf in a dumper-truck of a tackle.

The video official is going to review this one...

The decision is that Goss has not returned her opponent to earth with the due care and attention.

Yellow card is issued and New Zealand are down to 14 for the next 10 minutes.

A little unfortunate perhaps. McLean looked spirit-level horizontal to me. One for the old-school union to grumble over.
