    Leicester 23-27 Bath

Well that ends a fabulous opening weekend of the new Premiership season.

We've seen shock results for Gloucester, London Irish and here for Bath but the champions Saracens laid down a very strong marker.

Join us next weekend where Bath host Saracens and there's the small matter of the East Midlands Derby.

George Ford makes a losing return to Leicester and their glittering back-line were largely shut down today by a fine physical Bath performance who defended with exceptional discipline.

Many questioned whether Leicester had added enough up front to serve their stars behind the pack and on this evidence, they haven't. Comprehensively outplayed by the Bath back-row.

    Leicester 16-27 Bath

Bath have held on and what a win, a first victory at Welford Road since 2003 and just their second in the Premiership.

Leicester made a late comeback and had Bath on the stretch in the final 10 minutes but ultimately it was too late and Bath were good value for the win.

Tigers kick to the corner and this is the last play of the game...

But the line-out is lost! Bath scramble the ball back and smash the ball off the park.

  5. Sin-bin (Banahan)published at 79 mins

This is crazy. Telusa Veainu makes a break from the restart and have Bath scrambling - Matt Banahan is done for killing the ball and he's off.

    Leicester into the Bath 22...

Try (May, con Ford)published at 78 mins

    Leicester 23-27

It was coming as Leicester sent phase after phase at the Bath line. Matt Banahan and then Jonathan Joseph make try-saving tackles but the space eventually opens up for Jonny May to score his second try in the left corner.

This time George Ford nails a beauty from touch.

Is there time for Leicester to steal this?

  9. try

Try (May, missed con Ford)published at 73 mins

    Leicester 16-27 Bath

Oh goodness me Leicester what is going on. Twice in a minute, balls are dropped with the line begging.

First Graham Kitchener and then Harry Thacker.

But back they come and Jonny May is released down the left-hand touchline and he's over for his first score in a Leicester shirt.

Unfortunately for Tigers, George Ford misses a very kickable conversion - Bath fans will know about that all too well.

  10. Sin-bin (Fotuali'i)published at 16:38 British Summer Time 3 September 2017

    Leicester 11-27 Bath

Well, here's a lifeline for Leicester. A high-tackle is called against Khan Fotuali'i and Luke Pearce sends him to the sin-bin saying that's the fourth such infringement from the visitors.

Bath will have to see this out with 14 men.

  11. Leicester 11-27 Bathpublished at 69 mins

Leicester again going a little too cute when Bath are scrambling in their 22. Max Clark picks off a loose pass and hacks up field and had Matt Banahan gathered the ball off the turf cleanly, the game would have been over.

Tigers just about still alive but they need to score three times.

  12. Leicester 11-27 Bathpublished at 66 mins

Not much of this half has been played in Bath territory. Leicester finally get a chance to go deep into the opposition 22 with a line-out.

But not for the first time today, the Bath pack wins the battle and it's the visitors who get the scrum and clear.

  13. Penalty (Priestland)published at 63 mins

Again, it's Dan Cole penalised at the scrum and Rhys Priestland nudges the visitors further ahead again.

  14. Leicester 11-24 Bathpublished at 61 mins

Fabulous chase from the restart sees Bath immediately force a turnover and then a penalty.

They kick to the corner but again can't convert with a series of pick-and-drives.

It will be another scrum five yards out though.

  15. Penalty (Ford)published at 59 mins

    Leicester 11-24 Bath

George Ford steps away from two defenders before Ben Youngs finds space and skips towards the Bath 22.

He's taken down by a high-tackle from Rhys Priestland but it's only a penalty.

Ford knocks it over from bang in front.

Dan Cole has not been on long at tighthead and he's penalised here giving Rhys Priestland an easy chance to extend Bath's lead.

An excellent start to the second half from Bath.

  17. Leicester 8-21 Bathpublished at 54 mins

Dominic Barrow is marginally called for a forward-movement in a "tackle" and Bath are back in the Leicester 22.

It's a very good maul and they batter away at the try line, Matt Banahan goes for the decisive carry but is just held up under the posts. Scrum five Bath.

  18. Leicester 8-21 Bathpublished at 49 mins

Breakdown penalty against Leicester No. 8 Sione Kalamafoni gives Bath the chance to get into the Tigers 22 but a crooked throw this time gives the home side an easy out from a tricky spot.

  19. Leicester 8-21 Bathpublished at 47 mins

Tigers on the front-foot early in the half and Bath are forced to defend a five-yard line-out. Leicester take the jumper out in the air and the danger is averted.

    Leicester 8-21 Bath

George Ford gets us back under way with Leicester having work to do to get back in the game here.

Bath have been here before with half-time leads at Welford Road over the past 10 years, can they finish the job here?
