There is still plenty for Scotland to work on but a seven-try demolition of Canada will give them confidence as they head on to Houston to take on the USA next weekend.

The only black mark was the numerous injuries the Scots picked up in Edmonton, and Gregor Townsend will hope none are too serious.

Well it took a while to get going but ultimately a comfortable day's work for Scotland.

George Turner will steal the headlines after the hooker grabbed three of Scotland's seven tries. The forwards dominated, scoring three tries from rolling mauls.

The introduction of Adam Hastings at fly-half injected some tempo into the Scottish play, and another debutant, Lewis Carmichael, marked his international bow with a try.

All in all a satisfactory start to Scotland's summer tour.

What a night for George Turner - the first Scottish player since Ally Hogg against Romania in 2007 to score a hat-trick. Easy meat for the hooker given the devastation of the Scotland maul, but a huge achievement for the hooker. I’d still make Denton man of the match.

The match is winding down in the closing stages.

Canada are not throwing in the towel. They're running from deep and trying to have one last hurrah, but their lack of quality has been evident tonight.

They look out on their feet and the ball is spending as much time on the deck as it is in hands at the moment.

Scotland look a different proposition with Adam Hastings pulling the strings at 10. The young Glasgow Warrior is taking the ball flat, looking for gaps, drawing defenders and creating space for his team-mates.

Ali Price pops the ball up for prop Murray McCallum to plough over, but the Edinburgh prop's joy is short-lived as the try is chalked off for a previous neck-roll by Chris Harris.

Lewis Carmichael comes on for his Scotland debut to replace Ben Toolis. Murray McCallum also comes on for Simon Berghan, who looks to have sustained a head injury.

That was Scotland's best move of the match.

Blair Kinghorn fields a kick and feeds Adam Hastings. The young-fly-half steps one defender and puts Ali Price through a gap. Price feeds Byron McGuigan who fires it out to Mark Bennett. He looks to have the pace but is hauled down just short of the line and is unable to offload.

Ben Toolis gallops clear to take Scotland deep into Canadian territory.

Substitute Ali Price then delays his pass beautifully to put Blair Kinghorn through a gap. He seems destined to score but as he rolls out the tackle towards the line, DTH van der Merwe sweeps round to hold him up and prevent the try.

Terrific scramble defence.

A landmark moment as Adam Hastings follows in the footsteps of dad Gavin and uncle Scott by making his Scotland debut.

He'll look to inject some energy into the Scotland back-line from fly-half.

Canada register their first try and it's a moment to forget for Ruaridh Jackson.

The home side create an overlap and when Shane O'Leary spins a pass to put Ben LeSage in for the score, Jackson sticks out a hand to block the pass. The referee rules it was a deliberate knock-on to prevent the score and gives a penalty try.

Canada look to respond with their first try of the game and they very nearly get it.

Scrum-half Phil Mack makes a dart for the line from the base of the ruck and Magnus Bradbury does superbly to get his body between the ball and the goal-line to prevent the try.

James Lang is off for a head injury assessment and now George Turner, on for the injured Fraser Brown, is having his eye/cheekbone area examined.

Gregor Townsend will not want to lose too many, or any, players to injury this early in the tour.
