Quote MessageI think Gregor will be saying we are quite passive in the wide channels. The passing looks nice but the Canadians are able to just drift in defence to stop us. The message will be to demand a bit more accuracy.

Scotland going up the guts of the Canadians late in the half. They should keep doing it in the second half.
Scratchy opening 40. Lots of mistakes. They might not get to 50, but Scotland should ease away comfortably now that they have a reasonable grip on it.

Quote MessageA solid first 40 minutes and they'll look to build on that second half.

Fraser Brown off with a rib injury. Lee Jones off with a knee injury. Two men who have not enjoyed massive amounts of good fortune in recent years. Hopefully those injuries will heal very quickly.
Canada 3-15 Scotland
Scotland finally look to be in the groove, playing at tempo and stretching the Canadian defence.
That cutting edge to finish off chances has largely been missing, and that was evident in the final play of the game when the Scots conceded a free-kick from an attacking 5m line-out.
They are well on top and Gregor Townsend will hope to see Scotland score an early try after the break.

More like it from Scotland. Rugby can be a simple game if you play to your strengths and the maul is definitely one of their strengths in this Test.
Ruaridh Jackson
He had a try ruled out earlier but there is no denying Ruaridh Jackson this time.
The Scottish forwards rumble towards the Canadian line and with the defence sucked in the ball is whipped out to Jackson to glide over unchallenged.
Sam Hidalgo-Clyne nails the extras and Scotland lead by 12 with half-time approaching.

Quote MessageHe's a proven try scorer - such a powerful runner. Quality player, very hard to put down.

Gregor Townsend had the glass in the coach’s box removed for this game. Probably wanted to get some atmosphere. There isn’t a lot of it, it has to be said. Game has gone flat. Scotland are making too many mistakes. Need to get down in the Canada half and be patient through the phases. Slowly apply the pressure rather than looking for a one-phase try from their own half
Canada 3-8 Scotland
After a fairly pedestrian period Scotland lift the tempo with a series of purposeful carries.
David Denton and Magnus Bradbury blast through to get Scotland going forward, with Blair Kinghorn finding half a gap as well.
Denton is almost through and he looks to offload to Grant Gilchrist on his shoulder but the ball goes down and again the momentum is lost.

Fraser Brown walks off gingerly to be replaced at hooker by Glasgow Warriors team-mate George Turner.
Given Brown's recent injury problems, let's hope it is nothing too serious.

Quote MessageIt's good to see from Scotland, they soaked up the pressure. Jamie Ritchie with a couple of really good chop tackles there.
Canada 3-8 Scotland
After an extended period under the cosh, Canada force a line-out in the Scots 22.
The ball comes cleanly off the top and number eight Luke Campbell trucks it up in the midfield. Jamie Ritchie makes a couple of great tackles and Scotland turn the ball over. Sam Hidalgo-Clyne and James Lang attack from deep but the ball is knocked into touch.
Canada 3-8 Scotland
No Finn Russell for Scotland on this tour so hooker Fraser Brown decides he's the one to step up and supply the magic. He slips a gorgeous pass out the backdoor to Chris Harris.
From the next phase Sam Hidalgo-Clyne tries a little chip over the top but the ball runs dead.
Scotland look threatening every time they move the ball wide but the accuracy is not quite there at the moment.
You would expect Scotland to cut loose at some stage.
Canada 3-8 Scotland
It's all Scotland here.
Chris Harris endured a nightmare debut in the Six Nations mauling in Cardiff. He certainly seems keen to get his hands on the ball here and show what he's really all about.
He decides to take the direct route and puts Canada fly-half Shane O'Leary on his backside, but the force of the impact sees Harris lose the ball forward and the chance is gone.
You can bet more opportunities are not far way.

Scotland should be looking to score 50 points here. Canada are incapable of defending their own line. Some of their exit strategies are bonkers.
Canada 3-8 Scotland
Scotland almost make their man advantage count immediately.
The ball is shipped wide to Ruaridh Jackson who steps inside his man and goes for the line. He shows great presence of mind after the tackle to roll on the deck and stretch for the line and on first viewing it looks like a great finish. However, replays show he actually rolls the ball over the line with his arm and the referee awards a 5m scrum to Canada.

Quote MessageThere's no need at all for that. You could seriously injure a player. That's unacceptable play. That was between a yellow and red card.
