  7. Can Wales end their autumn rut?published at 16:36 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2018

    Wales v Australia (17:20 GMT)

The golden-brown hues of falling leaves, a fresh chill in the air, Wales losing to Australia… All sure signs that autumn is here. Well, the last of those has at least been a tradition for the last 10 years.

Wales have lost their last 13 matches against the Wallabies, many through painful late scores, and most have been agonisingly close – only two of those defeats have been by 10 points or more.

But there’s been a sense of quiet optimism among Wales’ players and staff this week.

They’re on a six-match winning run, while Australia have endured a miserable year by their high standards, winning only three of their 10 Tests and falling to an all-time low world ranking of seventh.

Wales have been here before, though. They’ve faced Australia as Six Nations champions on several occasions in the last decade and still fallen flat on their face. They know how tough it will be to win today.
