Error after error from both sides at the start of this half with the ball going back and forth between them but it does look like Italy might be tiring with the effort they are having to put in.

English scrum then. A quick tap from Sarah Beckett sees her charge into the Italian 22, but somehow the home defence manage to stop her.

    Italy still under the cosh.

The ball just isn't bouncing for the Italians. England 10 Katy Daley-Mclean sees a box kick partially charged down but Italy are penalised for a knock-on.

Early opportunity for Italy to build some confidence. After a home scrum, Sara Barattin switches play out wide to the right but skipper Manuela Furlan can't control a slightly-wayward pass. Back in English hands.

How many are England going to put on the board then? I'm going for 56.

Some Euro-EDM pumps out of the speakers, followed by a rather loud stadium announcer. Volume at MAX.

That means the players are back out. Second half is rocking and rolling...

  7. Matthews set for XVs returnpublished at 17:59 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2020

As mentioned, England flanker Alex Matthews made her return to XVs in that first half after a spell in sevens.

Matthews was hoping to go to the Olympics with Team GB before they were postponed, but after England sevens' funding was cut she has had to swiftly change plans.

She spoke earlier this week about a tumultuous past six months:

"I've been pretty anxious, even day-to-day tasks become quite overwhelming at the moment," she said.

"I feel like I don't know where I am because half the week I'm with Worcester, half the week I'm in an England camp, then you've still got sevens at the back of your mind wondering if that is ever going to happen.

"I do feel all over the place but you've just got to take the opportunities that come up and that's what I'm doing here. You control what you can control."

Everything going to plan for England. Already-crowned Six Nations champs, of course, but victory here will earn them a second straight Grand Slam.

    Can't see anything but.

Italy prop Lucia Gai tries to go round the corner but is quickly hauled back by the England defence.

The visitors claw back the ball with Katy Daley-Mclean briefly thinking of legging it the length of the field. She sees sense and conserves energy by booting it out of play instead.

    One-sided would be an understatement.

Still the Italians push and probe the English defence. Kick into touch, line-out, drive for the line... England holding firm.

The Italian players looked drained of energy and confidence. Not surprised.

Can they finish the half with a flurry? They string together a few phases in the English half...

Abbie Ward came out of nowhere in that maul. They managed to shift it really well, there was some great work from Packer to spin it and Ward slipped through unnoticed.

Try Abbie Ward, con Emily Scarratt

And another. That's the bonus-point try - not that they need it in the grand scheme of things - for England before the break.

The England forwards drive for the line and show their nous to get around the Italian defence for Abbie Ward to spin over the line.

Probably Emily Scarratt's trickiest kick so far... no problem.

There is that sharp knife and the hot butter again. England through the Italian line but Claudia MacDonald can only juggle it over the line.

But still the pressure is coming from England...

"Mamma mia," is what the Italian players might be muttering. Under the cosh here.

England have had 74% possession and 71% territory. The Italians have made 70 tackles - and missed 12 more - compared to England's 17 tackles made and two missed.

    (try & con Emily Scarratt)

Wow. England straight back on the attack, driving a maul down the left before the ball goes right. Emily Scarratt picks it up on the run, straightening her line to cut through the home defence.

    No catching her.

Rocky is on the money. The ball is touched forward by Abbie Ward as she looks to collect. Right decision. Sarah Burn laughs as she runs back into position.
