  5. 'Italy ran themselves into the ground'published at 16:12 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    FT: Italy 3-67 England

England head coach Simon Middleton said: "We had a really good first half last week and a really good second half this week. We were not physical enough around the breakdown and credit to Italy, their intent was good and we didn’t have any ball.

"There is always a balance between looking at the opposition and yourselves. The thing we talked about was the energy Italy play with. They ran themselves into the ground. We have had a lot of prep going into this tournament, and I saw the intensity in the second half."

  6. 'I loved it'published at 16:08 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    FT: Italy 3-67 England

Retuning England captain Sarah Hunter said: "I don't think I have played 50 minutes in a while, and it was fast and furious, but I loved it.

"We probably didn't come out with the intensity we should have in the first half and we defensively went too high.

"It was nothing we were surprised by after some Italy trips we have had in the past. I think the second half was more like what we have been working on. We had to wind Italy down a little bit and when you have a bench like we did, some of the tries we scored were outstanding."

  7. 'Clinical'published at 16:02 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    FT: Italy 3-67 England

England's Megan Jones said: "It was a tough ride in the first half. They came at us hard and we had some tough words in the changing room [at half time].

"We turned it around well in the second half. We wanted to show our accuracy and discipline, and with the finishers coming on we really showed our strength in the depth. We were clinical."

MacDonald has really ramped up the pace. A good carry by Cleall, then a step back inside and dramatic dive to get it down! She's a nippy player to watch.

Great play from Poppy Cleall to put Abby Dow away and one thing she can really do is finish. Excellent play, created by the forwards with the width then she pins her ears back - a girl who knows her way to the tryline.

How hard Italy have worked up to now, but then England empty the bench and it becomes so difficult for Italy. It is a tough ask for them.

Finally now we see how this England team can play. Great switch play, good hands by Scarratt, great footwork from Matthews - rugby at it's best. A fantastic try.
