Sarah Hunter speaking to 5Live: "We've spoken all week about trying to get a good start. We're used to these conditions in England and it showed - we can still adapt, still play rugby.

"I'm really proud of how the girls attacked this game, when it's pouring down it is easy to shy away. The whole group fronted up, that's what you want in knock out rugby. Fair play to Australia, they threw everything at us but we found a way. I'm really proud of the girls, it's a job done.

"We're now at the business end, there are no easy rides along the way. It's about the next game, we'll look at this game and work out where we need to tidy up things. We'll rest, recover and go again next week.

"It's been amazing, I've tried not to think about it too much as you never know what is going to happen, you just want to get on the pitch. But it has been a really special day. Now I can sit back and enjoy it.

"I just want to say thank you to my amazing team-mates and everyone who has supported my career from the age of nine to now - you know who you are."

England will discover their semi-final opponents in a couple of hours' time - Canada face USA next at Waitakere Stadium, kicking off in a little over half an hour.

The semi-finals take place on November 5 at Eden Park, with France v New Zealand and England's match taking place back to back.

The final is on November 12, again at Eden Park.

England player of the match Marlie Packer speaking to ITV: "I'm here to do a job with England, I want to put my body on the line and be the best player I can be. And what an arena to do it on at the World Cup.

"I love this game and it drives me. I love it, and I want everyone else to be able to do that.

"Our scrums were phenomenal today, Bern getting her 50th cap and everything. We want to play free running rugby, as much as I like mauls, hopefully you'll see that going forward.

"Whoever we get in the semis, we just have to get the job done."

England head coach Simon Middleton speaking to ITV: "I said to them at the end, we could not have imagined how difficult those conditions were. We managed it brilliantly, played in the right areas and took our chances brilliantly.

"What about Sarah Hunter, on her record performance? That's so Sarah, every time we needed a carry she was there.

"It was impossible to handle the ball, it was about getting in the right field positions and letting the forwards go from there.

"It's a six day turnaround and we have a lot of quality players, it's about getting the right balance. We know everyone will be ready."

England captain and record appearance holder Sarah Hunter speaking to ITV: "The thing that tops it off is the win, that's the focus. We can't take our eyes off what's in front of us. The weather played into how the game went today, but it means the record cap number is even sweeter.

"Hopefully now I can take some time to let it all sink in, it has been surreal, I have had the most amazing support and I feel very humbled. You don't get here without the coaches, my family, they made it happen.

"I just wanted one cap! I just hung on, it's like an addiction to play for your country. The fire still burns within me.

"We are used to playing in the rain, but that was something else. It was all about the victory, I thought we played very well. We asserted our game on Australia, sure there were mistakes but we asserted our game on them.

"We've had four tough games, now it's about recovery and working out where things didn't go so well today. Now we have to have the right game plan for the semi final."

England are in a great place because they have reached the semi-finals and can play better. This was a really comprehensive victory in difficult conditions, there was only one try conceded, discipline was good and there were no injuries so there's a full squad to select from for the semi-final.

Former England player Maggie Alphonsi speaking on ITV: "I would definitely say yes [this was England's best performance of the tournament]. They managed the conditions - the rain worked in their favour. England controlled the game from start to finish, they should be really pleased with that.

"They still have more to show, I feel this England side is starting to click."

We saw some really bright bits from England today. We moved the ball better than we did in earlier games and the forwards continued to dominate. They have definitely kicked on since the group stages but there are still areas where they can be more ruthless.

Marlie Packer has been brilliant today. The energy she brings. There's so much in her game that is admirable.

England continue their record of finishing in the top four at every women's Rugby World Cup.

It is telling how all seven tries today were scored by forwards - when it came to the scrums, the breakdowns and the mauls, they were a class apart.

Australia were spirited and defended well all game, but England were never in danger of being upset at Waitakere Stadium.

Now the really tough games begin...

England are striding into the last four but this has not been a perfect display by any means. A good move falls apart when Helena Rowland plays a simple pass forward.

Emily Scarratt is England’s leading point scorer so far in this tournament, with one try and eight conversions.

However, with one clear try opportunity missed and several kicks wide, she has not been at her sparkling best today.

Had the 2019 World Rugby Player of the Year been on top form today, things could have been a lot uglier for Australia already.
